Feeling sad my kid doesn't want to play anymore

Kids don't do enough to burn out.
Parents and bad coaches drive them away.

Nonsense. Year round soccer from age 7 or 8 burns kids out.

I wouldn't mind if there were my kid. I think its ok to shift priorities and play with a different team for fun. My son is only 9 and very much not burnt out, but I appreciate thar if he is in a few years, its going to be ok.

Hahahahahaha
Kids around the world are playing year round soccer from 4 years old, and more of it, without getting so-called burnt out.

It's the overbearing parents pushing the kids to do what they don't want to do and don't like to do and what's not beneficial to them that makes kids quit.

Strange how kids who are having fun do the same or more without burnout

If year round soccer from age 7 or 8 burned kids out, we wouldn't have Champions League games today.
All those players would have burned out.

I think you'd be surprised if you actually attended a rec game. It's the same level as lower level travel in the ncsl for girls. Not as bad as everyone makes it seem.

Not all kids are the same. Some will burn out, some will thrive

So when do kids start burning out? DS is only 11 and so far all talented A team kids he’s played with and against are still playing. Does burnout happen a year or so into MLSNext/ECNL?

Puberty is tough. I think some just leave because they can't keep up and as a result lose interest. My son included. Still hasn't grown.

Why do you feel different with soccer? It’s probably because YOU really want him to play. It’s important to you. We don’t get to pick what our kids like and can’t make them like the same things we do. Or maybe he doesn’t like it because you put a lot of pressure and expectations on soccer and it isn’t fun for him and this is his way of telling you.

Bad analogy. No one thinks excessive playing of video games is good for physical or mental health.

"Burnout" is an excuse used to cover other sins

Ok then, tennis. Point is the parent wants them to play soccer not the kid

I don’t think it’s as dramatic as that. Burnout describes the kid who quits because he realizes the work needed to stay on top is grinding and never ending and he doesn’t want to do that anymore.

But that also can be described as maturing and being ok with letting soccer go.

On the boys side, rec games can be higher level than the lower NCSL levels.
