| What do you and your DH do? |
That’s not such a high salary for so much travel. |
|
I’d go back to both employers and see if you can negotiate full WFH at least for 6-12 mos, with the agreement that you’ll go in once a month or once every 2 weeks. Hopefully one (esp the SJ job) will agree and it will give you time to move to southern CA and either make that work benefit permanent or look for a new job.
To put bluntly, with young kids the current scenario does not seem feasible other than on occasion, certainly not weekly. |

there’s a daily SNA — SJC nonstop on Southwest
~1 hr 30 mins live in Irvine, Aliso Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, Huntington Beach, or Fullerton all w/great schools |
| You can’t afford to live in socal on those salaries, especially with kids. Move to Fresno and commute. |
Op here. What if I find a job in SoCal? Is a combined HHI of 480k enough do you think? With 2 kids? |
Of course. The PP is being absolutely ridiculous. |
of course! especially if your kids take advantage of the UC system
|
Op here….i am dumb and my kids are very little. Are you being sarcastic or how does this work? Clearly I have a lot to learn!! |
The UC system is very good and much less expensive than a lot of other colleges. |
At those incomes? This is like barely middle class in those parts of California. Everyone wants to live in San Diego, but most adults live where the work and other demands make sense. You have nothing tying you to San Diego except you like the weather, like 6B people. |
Op here. Engineering/infrastructure/energy related fields. |
Hardly. Where do they live now? |
California is great. You only have to pay for 12 years of private school but have a great discount on good colleges. |
Flying back and forth hundreds of miles every week just because you want good weather, meanwhile making the global climate unlivable is pretty poor form. |
