Eeeeeew, sorry I hate the name. I know a Judy and she’s weird. I don’t like her.

My problemo. Name your child whatever you want. Just love her.

I think it’s great. Easy, normal, but completely unusual.

I have a boomer name - think Linda equivalent. I love it. It’s easy to pronounce , no one misspells it and there’s never been another one in any of my classes or peer group that I’ve run across.

What about Judith Jane (lean into the boomer thing) and call her JJ.

I wouldn't to Judy as a first name. I know a Kathy who isn't Katherine, and she hates it. Given name is a nn.

Agree with all of this except Judith Jane. Judith feels fresh compared to the trends it feels like we've been swimming in for ages - surnames, flowery Romance language names ending in -a, and unisex hipster.

I'm the JJ poster. I'm not married to Judith Jane. But I do love JJ as a nn vs Judy. And I hear you. I am surrounded by unisex hipster names.

How about Judge Judy?

OP, I think it’s lovely that you want to honor your MIL. Your dd will love having a special bond with her grandma. Judith is classic and Judy is cute. If she wants to be more edgy, she can go by Jude, J, Jay, Juju, Jujyfruit, whatever she wants to. Congratulations.

I know a Judy (Judith) who's totally great, but I still hate the name. I don't really do associations (beyond like, Hitler or something) and just look at the name for itself. And Judith is an awful nam.

I love Judith as a first name. Judy is an ok nickname too.

I love Judith. I generally love old school -th names (Edith, Ruth, etc). Judy is old fashioned, sure, but cute. Do it!

Her full name is Judith, but she never goes by that. Do you think Judy is too old-fashioned? If we decide to honor my mother-in-law, should we go with Judith and use Judy as a nickname, or simply give it to her as a middle name?

Yuck no

Judy sounds more outdated than Judith.

Judith is biblical and appears in art. It's classical.

Judy is 50s/60s Leave it to Beaver era.

I think it's darling.

Me, too. I actually live in an area that has a lot of young (late teens to early 20s) women who have 1950s names (Linda, Tammy, Susan, Debra, etc). they are definitely named after their grandmothers. I like it. Girl power and all that.

The millennial Judith I knew went by Jude, if you are looking for more nicknames.

Judith is a wonderful name. Judy is super super cute and an underrated gem!!! Just call her Judy, or Judy Angel, or something sweet. Judy Belle!
You also have Jude which is kind of a modern twist that might fit.
