Yes, but also selection in bias in who chooses to answer. Especially those who chose to answer first. And it is further magnified in that it is impolite to talk about money so a question on an anonymous forum lets people do so.

What is your portfolio yield? I'm nearly that level and I'm still at 1.6% yield. I'm fine with it at this phase (still working with seven figure income) but curious what it is for you.

If someone asks in the Beauty forum, “How attractive do you think men would rate you on a scale of 1-10?”, what do you think the answers are going to look like?

Well, first, who is going to be reading that forum every time they’re scrolling DCUM? Clearly those who value physical attractiveness very highly and are constantly looking for tips and ideas. If it’s something they value and put the effort into, then they probably *will* be 8-pluses.

And second, the woman who believes she’d be rated a 4 is going to be less likely to post this after seeing that everybody else is an 8 or 9. But by definition, not everyone can be an 8+ in attractiveness.

It’s the same thing with the Money forum and explains why you have to take all the responses here with a big grain of salt.

DH is 55, makes 130k, and has $650k in his 401k.

We only reached this income in the last three years and I’m proud of us; maxing our 401(k)s is a real sacrifice.

This is one of the few realistic posts on this thread and you seems to be doing pretty darn well...

Ummm yeah the numbers don't add up...you have been in the workforce for probably 20 years tops and you surely haven't made that combined income the whole time...I call BS..

Very low. I want to keep my capital growth opportunities (all in high tech), and pass those on to my kids.

I initially thought the same about this post, but they could have inherited funds that they invested and consider part of their retirement.
