| You should have spoken up at the time and asked to reschedule or for a different therapist. I think it is reasonable to call management and explain your situation to see if they offer you anything as a goodwill gesture, but I don’t see how you can go in there demanding a refund. |
Absolutely this. |
| This is so dumb. Why not say - hey I'm sensitive to smells can you wash your hands and gargle? Simple, easy. |
| What did you say when ending it early? |
|
I wouldn’t, but I’d never return. One of two things happened here- a sick employee turned up at work so soon after a virus that she still had vomit on her breath, meaning she probably was contagious, or the place is using oils so rancid they smell strongly of vomit. Neither reflects well on an establishment offering services in close quarters to pregnant women.
I know people work hard and sometimes have to make some less than optimal choices, but these viruses can cause people to miscarry. |
| No one did a massage after vomiting all over themselves. Didn't happen. It was something else. |
| Np. I had a massage therapist who smelled strongly of urine once. It was horrible. I hardly ever get massages, particularly after that. |
Hmm. I’m not sure about that, to me it’s always smelled of whatever food was eaten. Heavy on the garlic or seasonings from the meal. The food smell. |
Oof. As a perimenopausal massage therapist that occasionally sneezes I worry about that. It’s ooky and keep liners and extra clothes at the office jic OTOH I should also mention EVERYONE (minus op) could stand to change their thinx more often. especially before a massage. I pretend to not notice, but they do warm up and reek. Op, your time to address this was in the moment. It’s good you ended your session, but you also needed to talk to the desk staff or massage practitioner directly about your concerns. I’m sorry to hear this happened, and please let it not dissuade you from getting prenatal massages in the future. You might call the spa/clinic on their next business day to follow up. They might give you a credit if you’re open to trying a different massage therapist, don’t ask for a refund though. |
Maybe it was feta 😂 |
| Maybe it was ostomy bag leak? Or scent from her changing hers left on her hands |
Ostomy bag ≠ vomit smell |
So? Then you figure it out. A professional can brush their teeth and wash their hands. |
And mints for burping…but also just say something. If they are unaware of the aroma they can’t adjust for your comfort. Maybe they thought they were doing enough mitigation. |
| I'd have told her "I am so sorry- I have a sensitive nose and I am really smelling vomit in here. I think I need to cancel this appt" and see if she wants to charge you/if you need to speak with the manager. I could never have stayed there. I had bad MS for all my pregnancies and the queasiness has stayed with me even years out so I get the heck away from bad smells or I will create a bad smell. |
