Were you at the medical campus? Homewood is in another part of the city. There are much worse parts of Baltimore than Charles Village. Hell, there are much worse parts of DC than Charles Village. |

think of the most obnoxious prep school athletes ur kids know
That’s trinity in a nutshell |
The part of Baltimore where Johns Hopkins patients go is about 20 minutes away from the undergraduate campus (and it's not really that depraved, though there is crime and poverty and it's definitely not a nice area like Homewood) |
Charles village is nicer, but it isn't really nice either. |
Just drive even a few blocks from campus and you'll realize OMG do not go off campus ever, not happening. Think "worst part of Baltimore". |
Comment is based on... actually visiting it rather than looking at photos online. Hard to see the river from most of the campus, you have to cross Mohegan Ave to the athletics part of the campus to get good views of the river. |
I'm the PP. Well my son graduated from there last year so I have been there many times. And I have stood on the quad and seen the sound. My son's single dorm room one year had a great view of the river, and yes I have been in the athletic facility which is directly on the river... so my opinion is not about "photos online". The architecture is beautiful, in greystone like much of Princeton. But again, if you want to be insulting and assume I had not been there, fine, you do you. I just don't understand why that is necessary or why it gives you pleasure. |
| I've never been to Trinity, so I can't offer a comparison. But I agree with the PP that Conn is very pretty, and you can see the sound from the main campus on a clear day. What I will say, though, is there is not a huge amount of capital improvement going on, as far as I could tell. |

Trinity has a beautiful campus. They are building a new gym which will be finished next year. The surrounding area isn’t great but I think overblown. West Hartford is really nice and ten minutes away for dates and going out. Mostly kids stay on campus and there’s a good social life there. Just as an aside Trinity has won sports championships already this year for men’s and women’s squash and also men’s basketball. It’s been fun.
I think it’s ranked above Conn College if you’re into rankings. And I agree it’s less artsy than Conn College and more Econ/business/psych focused. |
I mean, Trinity is tied for 39th with 5 other schools, and then Union is 45th and Conn is 46th. They're basically ranked the same. Trinity does have a higher endowment, which is probably why there are more capital improvements going on. |
| I think that Trinity is actually an under the radar great school that gets a bad wrap because of the neighborhood. People are starting to notice though because their admissions rates are up a lot. |
Downtown New London is quite sketchy, though it does have an Amtrak station. There are beaches near Conn and an arboretum on campus. |
Well they don't have much of an endowment. And what they have, they're spending on bribing families to come with merit aid. They are on the bottom rung of the NE SLAC ladder, and it's a shrinking region demographically. This is a college that will be struggling within a decade. |
Their endowment is more than $400M. Not as high as some, but similar to Bates and higher than most schools of its size. They are still a top 50 LAC and have the advantage of being in New England and being in the NESCAC. I don’t disagree that some SLACs will struggle over the next decade, but I don’t think Conn is one of them. But I guess we’ll see. |
I hate to say this is true, but Union College which has a similar ranking just had a bond downgraded. Trinity might be in a stronger position due to its finance connection, but schools like Gettysburg, Conn, HWS or Union are in trouble. Kids even in the Northeast are pulling away from liberal arts colleges. Someone who a decade ago would have gone to Conn is looking at South Carolina or NC State. |
