Current Herndon HS parents

That only happens in response to parents in our district think they’re so above changes that might put them into HHS. The elitism from some of the parents in those districts is utterly distasteful. Rebalancing absolutely should happen where it makes sense and socioeconomics between neighborhoods should not be a factor.

We have had an excellent experience with Herndon. There are ups and downs as with any school, but overall, my kids are engaged, have had excellent caring teachers (and one or two duds), there is a wide variety of academic and extracurricular choices. Resources out the @$$ that I didn't have when I was in HS.

We have a tight-knit community that generously supports the school and its programs, making our school feel smaller than it actually is.

Do I have complaints? Sure - who doesn't find things about their kids school that periodically annoys them. But seriously people - get off your high horse about Herndon. It's really not that different from most other schools in the county.

I’m happy to hear about the right-knit community, and really am glad to hear it. The s-talking that occurs on this board stems from some interlopers wanting to fix your school by sending Forestville “rich” kids to it.

Their vision is that Forestville families would be your saviors. But that’s really just an excuse, they really desire to soak the “rich”.

Let’s make a deal, we’ll lay off your tight-knit Herndon community and we collectively will let great falls have its tight-knit community too.

Translation: if FCPS sees that redrawing the lines puts my GF kids in HHS even if it makes logistical sense, we will scream and stomp our feet. THIS is what pisses off Herndon/Reston parents.

So what is it? Do you prefer to keep to your own tight-knit community or enter into the redistricting mess?

This doesn't quite ring true to me. Unless someone was just pretending, I've read some Herndon-area residents on their own initiative arguing for boundary changes to pull more UMC kids into Herndon, and not just reacting to other posts. As well as people just saying things were fine and asking to be left alone.

But it's all kind of a crap shoot as to what this School Board will want to do.

I thought the prior poster just said her community was tight-knit. I’m confused - does she want Forestville kids there or not? If so, Forestville moms will weigh in with their thoughts. If not, we can do live-and-let-live.

I think you’re conflating “tight-knit” with elitist, snobby and restrictive. Tight-knit refers to an environment where neighbors engage with each other, care about each other, pull others up, lend a helping hand and generally take an active interest in the people in their community and contribute for the betterment of everyone. The average Herndon resident could care less about the politics surrounding GF being redistricted to HHS but would welcome those families to join in our community if it happened.

You keep twisting yourself into pretzels trying to reconcile your cognitive dissonance that you loathe Forestville families but that we should all love our neighbors. Which is it, do you love Forestville families or hate them with every fiber of your being?

Or, I know, it’s because they live in Great falls, they must be rich, and you just can’t stand people you perceive as rich?

Are you the original poster complaining about people talking bad about your area? Isn’t there a saying about glass houses?

There's a scenario where part of GF could be redistricted to HHS for political reasons - simply to affect demographics.

There's also a scenario where part of GF could be redistricted to HHS for logistical reasons - simply to reflect which schools have capacity.

If you don't want to get redistricted to HHS, you claim you would only be redistricted for political reasons. If you don't want to hear others complain about getting redistricted to HHS, you just want the topic to go away. If you want FCPS to address the underlying factors that may necessitate a redistricting, you continue to point them out.

It's FCPS purgatory.

Nah, it’s just one agitator who is on a personal mission to try to turn FCPS into a failed communist state, but as a PP stated, Herndon is doing just fine.

Nevertheless, the agitator can’t seem to let it go, likely due to her hatred of the “rich” folks at Forestville. Odds are that she took a sociology class with Chomsky or peruses Russian propaganda.

Didn’t OP asked current HHS parents about school because they were considering sending their kid there? Why all this talk about redistricting? Just share about your experience with school. And don’t say anything if your kids never went to to this school?

Sounds good! I’ll only respond when people bring up redistricting.

Agreed. Her misguided redistricting crusade is relentless.

Yes which is ludicrous. To get away from the problem kids you have to take those classes, regardless of your “passion.” And HHS has a huge amount of problem kids. I don’t want my kids around them.
