Awful scratching noise under the sink freaking me out

American Pest but tell them you do not want a contract just a one time visit first.

I haven’t called Xceptional Wildlife Removal but have been super intrigued by their videos of removing raccoons and such from inside DC residents’ walls. They’re like the Duck Dynasty of extermination

A trick I’ve seen used abroad is fluorescent powder and blue light. You sprinkle this powder around the perimeter in the crawl space etc. then the next day you use the blue light to see where the little footsteps go if any. Rinse and repeat, they found a mouse entry behind a built in bookcase from the neighboring townhome construction

Have you thought of mold proofing your crawl space? They put white plastic everywhere, close up the holes other than the ventilation grilles and you should be able to see anything if there’s anything ever very easily

Also a camera? Like a Google Nest or Canary?
Set it to motion trigger looking at the dishwasher?

These videos are awesome. If anyone calls these guys, please report back. We were going to call them for raccoons but then once we replaced the old city trash can and now use big drum liners before putting trash bags in, they haven’t been back. No scent to attract anything.

The goal is to make your place unattractive and inhospitable since the pests have lots of easier targets to go to

I read OP’s posts a few days ago and a couple of days later I started hearing scratching noises (not awful I would say) in the wall separating the kitchen from the dining room, more or less behind the sink area and very close to, or even from a heating vent.

The wall is plaster, the noise can be heard occasionally during the day, for instance this morning. The noise stops when we get close to that area and then resumes. We live in a rowhouse in NW DC in a residential area without restaurants etc and never had any problem or evidence of infestation in the 12 years we have lived here.

What do you think it’s going on? Is this animal digging its way through the plaster wall? What is it trying to do?? 🫣

I have called Xceptional Wildlife and they will come on Thursday. So happy to have read of that recommendation!

Hmm why would it be scratching? I think it’s more likely it’s a critter although I like birds more..

If the critter is trapped then it might be dead by the time your service arrives.

Mice definitely audibly scratch and their chewing can be heard too depending on what they are chewing. And if this is occuring on/near a pipe, the sound can be amplified. GL!

We used trappro in our year-long battle against rats that were coming into our house. They were good.

It was like living in a horror movie. In the end we found they were getting in through an old pipe under the upstairs bath. From there they had access all over the house.

Oh gosh OP. I was freaked out after reading your thread. We have a small circular water stain (yellowish) on the ceiling and I thought water may have leaked. The circle didn't get bigger and googling said it may be an animal pee.

Today, after turning on the tap in the morning for brushing, I heard a sound in adjoining laundry room. The noise is coming intermittently like something is scratching it or ruffling feathers inside drywall. Freaking me out.

Could it be a rat or squirrel or something else? Anyone have recommendations for pest control in Maryland

Pp again. The stain came 2 weeks ago. Haven't heard any scratching noises till now. How could anything get up to the laundry room (middle level)
