| No weapons that I've heard of but there were multiple fights last year in DC's W middle school so it does happen at the school you listed. They were all shared on social media and they weren't pleasant. |
| Fights have always happened at schools. Fortunately armed fights are still rare enough to generate outrage. |

There was a big fight at Blake HS last week between rival student drug dealers. Police responded but no report done because “ the school will handle it”
Unless your kid goes there you’d have no clue it’s even happening….. |
And this, my people, is the MCPS way. If they can get away with hiding the crap that goes on at their schools, they will. They will suppress footage, hide behind "privacy" laws and fail to escalate violence and drug offenses to protect themselves and the kids wreaking havoc on the school. This is the system we have. |

Move to Poolesville. Their MS is under capacity.
I think this is a numbers issue - too many kids, too few adults. |
This also happened at our HS. MCPS prefer to 'handle' it internally. They don't want the bad press and it looks bad when the school safety reports come out. If anything happens involving your kid, call the police yourself and ask for a police report. MCPS would much prefer to minimize incidents. We see that over and over. |
Yeah, I have a kid at Blake and one at Banneker. Not thrilled to receive messages from their schools two weeks in a row about lockdowns and police responses to fights. My kids feel pretty safe and removed from the violence, but it makes me angry and sad that they are in that environment every day. |
I'm the PP you responded to. I'm glad your kid felt safe there, and my neighbor's kid also feels okay there so far. I do agree that the bar for student behavior is set quite low, unfortunately. Personally, I do with MCPS would crack down on behavior, but I guess that's an unpopular opinion around here so I just tell me kid to head in the other direction when there are fights at school. Just try to stay out of the way. |
And you believe everything you read on DCUM? |
Is this actually an unpopular opinion? I would be strongly in favor of this but it is so hard to tell how others feel. |
DP Nah, but I have had several kids in MCPS for over 10 years and see how the system operates. The big cases, like the Damascus and Rockville rape cases, the sexual abuse allegations, and the smaller day to day incidents at my kids’ schools that just get swept under the rug. |

“I heard that the 12 year old “victim” has been bullying the 14 year old “suspect” for a while. The 12 year old started punching the 14 year old. The 14 year old pulled the knife and cut the 12 year old. The 14 year old gets charged. The 12 year old can’t be. MCPS previously aware of issues between them.”
https://www.facebook.com/share/zUcB855NZJtphbo4/?mibextid=K8Wfd2 It gets messier and messier. |
Of course it is. |
Unalive. They are being killed. |
good lord. What did the school do about the bullying issue? Clearly, RJ is not working. What will happen to the 14 yr old? Will she just be place back in school? How horrible for all the students and teachers to have to deal with a known violent criminal in their midst. |
