Or better yes middle school That’s when many public schools tank in their educational experience. And those middle school years at a top private prepare your kid for to perform their best in high school |
I wasn’t aware that there were so many disadvantaged kids zoned for Whitman. |
It’s actually very diverse. Look it up Sidwell bashers are disgruntled moms who would do the same in any school. You know the ones - incessantly bemoaning the learning gap, the principal etc. These threads are not serious or representative. There used to be a thread per week until everyone got sick of and run off the one constant complainer with a personal axe to grind. Get a life, honestly |
For many it’s so they can lock in the best schools early. Harder to get in later. |
No they don’t. Being tuition-free are public schools’ raison d'être. That’s key for the masses, but if you’re wealthy it doesn’t matter. |

The market creates the tuition, it is always related to supply and demand. Sidwell and other privates are in heavy demand and they can charge nearly 60k and still turn away the vast majority of applicants.
Privates with vast resources will likely be in the 100k plus range within a few years. |
It is not possible for private school costing $60,000 per year to be diverse. |
This. They are businesses. They will charge what they can get. |
Visual diversity, not (meaningful) economic diversity. |
They are businesses getting government welfare courtesy of the tax payers. |
| Like people said, it was one bitter mom last time and it’s the case again. Yawn. |
| DCPS teachers are paid much better, there are a ton of facilities and funding. So what gives? |
| 60% POC, 1 in 4 to 1 in 5 on financial aid. What more do you want? |
Isn't it harder to get into a private school if you wait until 8th grade to apply? I assume that parents paying either make $$$$$ or they live in cheaper areas to offset the cost. |
