This is way too long for a weekend imo.

There used to be a direct flight from one of the DC airports to Burlington- we did it a few years ago. Although we rented a car in Burlington.

There's literally six nonstops per day to Burlington - 4 from DCA on AA, 2 from IAD on UA

And isn’t there bwi to Albany, Manchester, and Maine?

I’m sure car rentals are needed in every case though.

That’s because all the daytrip-friendly hills around here haven’t had any snow to speak of this season. At least until last week, and much of that May melt with the coming rain and warm temps. Ahhh, mid-Atlantic skiing!

There are public buses from SLC or Ogden to several mountains. You can uber from the airport to your hotel. The buses can get crowded but at least you don't have to deal with parking and you save money by not renting a car.

Right- so why are people recommending the train for a weekend trip? Makes no sense. I would explore taxi or private shuttle options from Burlington to Stowe or Bolton. In Stowe there is a public shuttle that goes back and forth between town and the mountain too.

Can you take your luggage on the buses?

You can definitely take skis and gear, the buses don't go to the airport. I'm not sure about taking a big suitcase, I doubt it but maybe that would work at a not crowded time.

there is a super cheap bus (maybe five dollars) from Bozeman to big sky that I have taken with luggage and skis. It is designed for locals and staff working at the mountain and works great. It stops at a couple motels so you can easily take a cheap Uber to a motel, take the bus to big sky the next morning and ski a full day. Only trick is staying near the base at big sky isn't cheap.

It says right in the title that they are looking for suggestions that do not involve driving.

My point was it’s an hour and a half drive I never said they had to be the ones physically driving.

When people ask if we were driving or fly to vacation and I say driving, I’m never actually driving. My husband is or we’re taking an Uber or plenty of other options for drivers..

Last year we flew direct to Denver, took shuttle to Breck, and stayed at ski in/out with free shuttle to town. Didn’t need a car at all.

PP again. This winter, we flew direct to Vancouver, took shuttle to Whistler, stayed in the village (5-7 min walk to lifts) and did not need a car at all either.

Thanks! Some of these are good ideas but far for a weekend - but I guess I have limited options for a weekend which I guess I figured. With close to Burlington or Montreal maybe being the best options.

Does anyone else here have kids in FCPS? Did you check out the 2024-2025 - no good long wknds for skiing!!!! LOL. This January break that we have right now is a WEDNESDAY off next year.

Skip school. It DOES NOT matter. Maybe it does if you're a sophomore or junior in HS.

Fly to New England on a Wednesday evening and miss two days of school. Hopefully you have good conditions for the two days you'd have the mountain to yourself.
