| It's the electronic equivalent of handing someone cash. If you put $100 in an envelope and put it in the wrong person's mailbox, your bank would not be able to do anything for you. |
| We accidentally PayPaled several thousand dollars to the wrong person, mistyped email. They never responded. PayPal was not interested in helping. Imagine Venmo is the same way. Send a request to the person you paid. Maybe their honest b |
Not PP but I sent a tenant’s security deposit back and chose the version that takes the sales tax by mistake and needed to fix it. It was pretty easy to get a live person in customer service then. |
And hopefully they proofread better than I do. |
Agreed. Give the money back, somehow it was a scam, so Venmo debits you an additional $475 to cover the scam amount. |

OP here with an update.
I never reached a live person at Venmo customer service but their email correspondence was very prompt. They said in the email that they will try to help. After a bit of back and forth, I just received an email from Venmo saying that the money is being returned to me. It is not in my account yet, but I am hopeful. Not sure if this means that Venmo is canceling the transaction, or if the wrong person (recipient) returned it. In either case, I am grateful! |
| Great news op!! |
| Venmo sucks. I sent almost $3000 to purchase an item which turns out did not exists. Thankfully I paid via a credit card and the credit card ended up refunding the money after investigation and Venmo has banned me as a result. Nice! |
