| I just paid the wrong person on Venmo! Ugh. And a fairly substantial sum. I can’t get a live person to help me at the customer service number. Any hope of receiving these dollars back? |
How much? Genuinely curious because someone accidentally venmo'd me some cash. I didn't call about it at first because I read there are some scams that relate. But it's been a while now so I plan to call Venmo to tell them - and let them investigate. |
| Can you contact the person. I think most people would send it back to you... |
| I think you are SOL unless they transfer it back to you if you’re pulling from your bank account. Might be different if using a credit card. |
|
OP here. It was $475 which is a lot of money to me.
I just called my bank and put a hold on all Venmo transactions until this gets sorted out. I just don’t want to lose the money. |
| Venmo isn't going to give it back. This is on you. I am sorry and hope the person gives it back to you. Venmo is essentially a way of transferring cash...if you give someone cash, nobody is going to help you get it back even if you meant to give it to someone else. |
| I would think it was a hoax and not return the funds. Too many scams. |
OP again. But will my action of calling the bank and stopping the payment work? It should, right? |
| Use Zelle. Not perfect but better. Don't send any money to anybody unless you have already put their phone number in your phone and double checked it for accuracy. I doubt you are getting your money back unless the person you sent it to has a lot of integrity. |

Depends if it already went through. And it probably already did. |
|
OP I am sorry but you need the other person to send the funds back.
I don't think the bank can do anything. If they told you they put a hold on Venmo transactions I hope that is true, but since they go through very quickly I don't think they can. |
|
Doubtful. My brother sent $50 to the wrong contact in Venmo and was told the only way to get it back was if the recipient returned it.
That's why there are so many warnings to make sure the recipient is the correct one before you hit send. |
| God people suck. I hope they send it back op. I would. |
|
The only way to have a chance in getting it back is to fill out the form here, OP.
https://help.venmo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=624807 I only know of one person who was successful in getting their funds returned and that was because the recipient hadn't immediately transferred the funds out of their account. It was probably a dormant account that someone forgot about. Once the money goes from the recipient's account to their bank account, it can't be retrieved at all. |
