Believable. This is D.C. |
Who designed the new gates? A sole-source, politically well-connected local DC firm? |
Maybe, but the D.C. government doesn't run Metro. |
|
Pathetic. Whoever approved this should be fired. What a ridiculous waste of money.
WMATA needs to skip the nonsensical half measures and get serious. Make the doors metal or ballistic grade glass, at least 5’ high, secured with steel bolts, and leave no more than an inch between the doors. |
| It has definitely cut down on fare jumping at Bethesda. I used to see 4 or 5 high school kids do it at a time. Since the gates went in I've seen only a couple. And one got stuck. |

These do not do anything.
They need turnstiles that go from the floor up to at least 10 feet. NYC uses them. Most people are out of shape and wouldn't have the upper body strength to be able to climb metal bars to hop over. They need these:

Ask the council to make the punishment for fare jumping meaty? |
Haha I want to see that |
These make me feel so trapped and claustrophobic. I hate criminals. |
| I don’t understand why there’s a giant gap in the handicap doors. Seems like it would be easy to design with a one-inch gap that is more difficult to squeeze through. In any event, none of this matters so long as DC refuses to enforce the laws and prosecute criminals. |
NYC leads. This is the way. |
Pentagon City has them as well. So folks get in at pentagon and jump there. |
Also you have to touch them. |
Yes, I remember the older version of those. They’re awful when traveling with luggage. I’m surprised that they don’t violate the ADA. |
Time to deploy MPs at Pentagon station? |
