Of course she has mental illness given what her mother did to her.

Many people don’t believe she murdered her mom many believe she killed her in self defense.

Gross.
-anyone who has ever known a 17 year old male.

This was an early example of her mom’s inappropriate behavior. Gypsy said that her grandfather sexually abused her so I wonder if he also abused her mom, Dee Dee. Dee Dee’s mom also had something of a Munchausen by proxy relationship with her.

+1

Gypsy was screwed. Her only way out was for her mom to die. I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s the only way she was going to be free. IMO Gypsy is just as manipulative as her mom. And I don’t like how we are celebrating her. It’s complicated nothing about this has easy answers. I don’t think she will end up doing well in life.

Gypsy had her teeth removed, her salivary glands removed, a feeding tube inserted into her stomach, her head shaved, was tied to her bed, was regularly beaten, was not allowed to go to school or have any friends, was alienated from her father and extended family, was regularly drugged by her mother so she eventually was addicted to opioids so that she would remain compliant. There is more.

Gypsy killed her abuser, her lifelong abuser, just like some woman do when their husband’s beat them. Except in this case, Gypsy was a child, with no agency, no ability to leave. WTAF was she supposed to do.

I cannot believe that anyone would judge Gypsy for what she did. If this was Ruby Frankie’s kid who killed her to escape the abuse or one of the Turpin kids who killed their parent in order to get free, would you be so judgmental? She served her time. Get over it.

I can't stand her voice or face. Homegirl needs extreme therapy.

She's on my bingo card for 2024. Specifically I said: JRB will get super famous & divorce her husband.

I also have DWTS or The Masked Singer will be graced by the presence of JRB and/or George Santos.

I absolutely agree with this. Don't forget the persistent emotional abuse and torture.

I don’t think her attorney did her any favors with the plea to second degree murder. What she needed was an extended period of time in a mental health facility, not prison. The fact that she continued to seek out inappropriate and unhealthy relationships online/through the mail while in prison and ended up marrying the last guy is so sad. She is in desperate need of intense inpatient psychotherapy to unpack all of her trauma.

She has said that being in prison was a happier time and gave her more freedom and independence and autonomy than being at home with her mother.

Let that sink in.

I didn't follow the case closely at the time but I always wondered why there wasn't a mutual agreement that psychiatric care was in order vs. prison.

Why do people think she didn’t receive any psychiatric care in prison? She was there for almost 10 years and was released early based partially on her current mental state.

Society had been obsessed with this case for a long time ;I remember the Hulu miniseries on this with Patricia Arquette). Once she was released magazines, photographers, podcasters, tv producers, Tik Tokers,
True crime people, etc were all going to be making money off of her story (and have been). Why shouldn’t she be the one to cash those checks? I don’t get the angst.

I think PP was saying she believed in a psychiatric hospital not prison. I agree.

I agree. You can hear the therapy in her vocie and how to approaches topics so she's gotten some help. She's sounds conpletely different from now and is quite well spoken. Now some people use therapy to become a better manipulator but it's too early to say that's what she's doing. I appreciate she's been curb thr idea that what she did was okay in interviews. She felt like that was her only option at the time to cope but it obviously wasn't.

+1 Gypsy probably recognized that her mom's antics would kill her (maybe not purposely, but with all the crap she was forced to take? yes) eventually and killing mom was the only way out. She did attempt to get help multiple times only for her not to be believed and returned to her mother to be beaten ruthlessly and the leash to be further tightened. Also, mom had power of attorney and told people that Gypsy was mentally incapable, so Gypsy was not believed even more.

I am so sick of hearing about her daily in the media. And her name is so dumb.
