It's an uncomfortable book, but I couldn't put it down. It's a dirty, vile, hate read. Trigger warnings for - rape, not really a spoiler, as a rape trial is the main theme of the book (aka Brock Turner) Spoiler ahead (though many could see this coming, or guessed it early on) --- sexual grooming/molestation/rape of a child |
The golden couple, so good and so DC! |
This is the “hot thing in publishing” that pp mentioned? |
I loved The Nest Wangs vs The World Most Likely Club |
Started this today and am really enjoying it so far. Thank you! |
Loved this book and immediately thought of it with this thread. |
| I liked happiness falls by Angie Kim, which basically takes place in Great Falls, where AK lives |
I’m glad you are liking it so far! |
| The Ten-Year Nap, Meg Wolitzer |
|
Such a fun age by Kiley Reid...she has a new book out too.
Strangers and cousins by Leah Hager Cohen Agree with the recommendations for J Courtney Sullivan and Angie Kim. |
Finished it already, thanks for the recommendation! Johanna would definitely be on DCUM Family Relationships forum. Let me know if you have any other suggestions (in general), I loved the writing style of this one. |

It's a little dated now: Amanda Bright@home
by Danielle Crittenden. Takes place in NW DC. Was eerily similar to my life when I read it. |
|
I just finished Pineapple Street.
I see similarities to DCUM, but a lot that was dissimilar. It seemed to me that a large focus of the book was about some of the family members becoming vaguely aware that they are snobs because of all their money, and feeling guilty about it. To me, DCUM has a lot of strivers who want to achieve that super-duper upper crust status and not so much that they have always had gobs and gobs of money. I liked the book. |
I think it’s like DCUM in that there is so much family tension without each person looking at his or her role in it. |
| If you haven't read or watched "Gone Girl", and you like dark humor, I recommend it. |
