Despite being on top of their self grooming, my boys are kind of a mess.

Make sure what they have access to all kind of matches. My dd has no red, green or organge clothes. She doesnt like those colors anyway. So all the rest if the stuff kind of matches.

My daughter was like this. I bought her solid tops and bottoms, so they always kinda matched. Nice dresses for special occasions were one piece, so no worries there. Her hair was totally crazy until 5th grade. In 6th, the world changed and she actively spends time on her appearance and is gorgeous. Just let it go! In the grand scheme it's no big deal - so long as they bathe and brush their teeth daily. Oh, I also gave DD a short bob hair cut, which helped. I think with boys it's even easier - short back and sides, a tiny bit longer on top.

For what it's worth... the whole 'boys leggings under shorts' is very trendy with kids right now.

Regardless of how silly it looks.

I wouldn't fret about it too much, OP. At that age? Just let them wear what they want, and laugh about it it later. No big deal.
