There’s “gun culture” everywhere. Think no one ever gets shot in Boston or New Haven or Berkeley?

I live outside Boston. People here aren’t gun nuts. We don’t glorify weapons. I didn’t say that “no one gets shot in Boston”.

So you're fine living in a place where people get shot. You just don't want anyone around you having open and honest discussions about owning, storing , and using guns safely and legally. Interesting.

Did the cops in Uvalde step up and use guns safely and legally when needed?

They didn't use guns at all, from what I understand. I'd imagine that makes you happy.

I’m here currently only because I am forced to be for the annual holiday visit. Cannot wait to return home to where my girls and I have rights.

Cool story, bro.

So this means you avoid Baltimore, Chicago, DC and most of the blue cities?

Not sure what they mean by “gun culture” but I am happy my children all chose not to go to a school in a major city. They all seem to be having gun problems currently including Baltimore and DC.

We lived in Vermont, and I swear to god we were the only people in town who weren’t armed. Guns were ubiquitous. When I lived in Chicago and NYC it was the opposite. Go figure.

People are sooo nice in those states. Texas in particular is amazing, culturally, food, entertainment, etc.

I personally am not a big fan of Oklahoma or Kansas, simply because I don't like the geography. But the people are great. My preference geographically would be Texas, Missouri (particularly the St Louis side down I-44 to Springfield), or Arkansas. The Ozark foothills are lovely.

People-wise though, you cannot beat those in the middle of the country

Look at University of Missouri- Columbia, University of Missouri-Rolla (engineering or geology type stuff) or Southwest Missouri State for some good Missouri state university options. K State and KU are both good schools too.

I like this post. My daughter went to school in a red state, and the people there surprised and delighted her in the best possible way. We are all so much more than the caricatures people would make of us.

The only women's health care she couldn't get would be an abortion after 6 weeks. She can always fly to a state that offers that, should the need arise.

As the Kate cox case proves, it isn’t about straight “I just don’t care to be pregnant” abortion.

And I don’t trust any of these states to care about the well being of my daughters in case of emergency.

It is not as easy as just flying out of state for most.

Good. Go away. Take this to
Politics. No one cares here.

Plains. The Great Plains.

But many people in the East think Michigan & Ohio residents are backwoods hicks, much less those from Kansas & Oklahoma. Some of the same people who bristle at disparaging comments about some foreign countries have no problem calling the plains states $h!+holes.

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck...

Would not subject my family (we have sons and daughters) to living in a place where the politics are such that half the family does not have autonomy over their own body. Full stop.

No, it is not. Iowa is not the Great Plains and physically Iowa City looks nothing like the Plains.

Midwest, yes. Plains, no

+1 I was so confused by this title. I thought she meant "plain" as in "just plain state universities" - as a synonym for ordinary, simple, average. I was like...yeah, I like ordinary state universities.

Women’s health care is available in blue cities. They don’t want to go to a place with yeehaw cowboys with open carry.
Why do you care if my kids don’t want to go to schools in Nebraska, that frees up a seat for your kid.

Their governor (Laura Kelly) is a democrat and on her second term.

And abortion is legal in Kansas. My dying mother staggered up to the voting both to vote to help keep abortion legal in Kansas.

Thanks to your mom for prioritizing future generations of women in Kansas. Bless her
