What kind of dating or love advice did you get from your parents?

Be loyal if you seek loyalty. Be kind if you seek kindness. Be generous if you seek generosity. Be loving if you seek to become your partner's beloved. Be respectful if you seek to be respected.

Don’t date someone you would “never” marry. As soon as you figure out he’s not the one, it’s time to break up. The longer you stay together, the more you will ignore the reasons you intended to eliminate him, and those reasons were from your less-entangled more rational self.

We had one conversation. It went like this:

Mom: “I can’t believe you are still unmarried at 30. What is wrong with you anyway that you can’t get a man to marry you?”

Me: “maybe I just haven’t met the right man.”

Mom: “No, that’s not it.”

I did get “Marry a blonde. Dark haired men leave more noticeable hairs in the sink. Ick.”

So random.

That’s good advice.
