None and I didn't give my now adult children any either.
None really
Nothing directly from my parents but they were great role models for a loving relationship. My older brothers did give me advice but it was advice you’d expect from older brothers. In total I think I was well prepared.
I remember telling my daughters to find someone like their father. Naturally they laughed but they took it to heart and both married really good guys.
Marty someone you can talk to.

Basically this. The actual words were "Always have $20 cash for cab so you can leave" but the example was completely separate accounts their whole marriage. |
When I finally confessed to my mother that I was very unhappy with my spouse who physically isolated me and made me quit my job and was controlling, she told me to stay with him so I could have a nicer house. When I eventually decided to leave him, she reached out to him and maintained a relationship with him instead of me. Needless to say, I estranged myself from my mother. My father, who basically lets my mother handle me, never even spoke to me throughout the whole thing. So, I don't really care what they think.
“It’s just as easy to marry a poor man as it is to marry a rich man” or, maybe it was the opposite. Wasn’t paying attention.
The variant I got was "Marry someone whose job you can understand". |
"Don't marry a doctor." That's it.
‘Don’t marry a latino! They are all cheats and will lie and cheat on you.’. My mother is a latina, my dad is white. I tested the water, but ended up with a guy similar to my dad.
My mom said never get involved with a short man. Other than that - nothing.
