DS deferred. 4.0W and high achieving ECs. He's losing interest.

I guess the secret got out that states with low taxes, warm weather, hot chicks and that don't shut completely down for viruses are better places to start a life.

Be careful bringing all these facts to this site.

I think this is spot on.
My neighbors kid goes to SC and loves it. My daughter didn’t like Clemson but did apply to Florida State.

Those who were deferred or rejected, did the application go in early in the admission cycle, close to as early as possible? Might matter.

^ meaning, earlier has better odds. I believe.

Went to a holiday party last night and heard of a bunch of kids with mid-3.x GPAs and 1200ish SATs getting deferred. Seems like this would have been an easy target a few years ago.

My FCPS dc got deferred. 4.02 weighted GPA, 1320 SAT, many good ECs.

It's not even a school he cared much about going to but it is a bit jarring and makes us worry for the other in state schools he is hoping to get into like VA Tech.

Do they have a safety like JMU?

Hang in there. We had that jarring experience when Ohio State seemed to reject our son very quickly for EA. Since then, he's gotten 3 nice offers (2 with merit $).
