Marrying outside the faith was how I left the faith without losing my close friends and family. It was easier for them to accept that I’m not active because my spouse doesn’t believe. |
| Friend’s kid attended as a freshman last year, liked it pretty well, but decided to transfer in part because he got tired of being asked constantly to participate in LDS activities / convert. It was OK, not a bad experience, but one year was enough. |
BYU is a great school for accounting, but outside of this major I do understand folks reaction as you noted. |
BYU law is ranked 22 - Cravath, Davis and Polk other NY firms attend on campus interviews and hire. BYU grads also do well in finance in NY. Goldman hires (NY and SLC). |
I hear you but LDS actively try to convert. Catholicism and Muslims, not really at all |
You'd be surprised. I grew up in an area with a sizable LDS community. Most were very straight-laced per the stereotype, but the wild ones were next-level *wild*. |

Utah State is a good school for STEM degrees and is in a small town (Logan) slightly south of Idaho.
The one quirk there is that the US route over the pass in/out of town sometimes gets clobbered by snow. So 4WD and chains sometimes are needed to get over the pass. |
| They’re also on the western exchange so a lot of west coast students get reduced tuition. |
| Co-workers son attends on western exchange. He likes it, he’s a major skiier and it’s easier to get to good skiing than CU Boulder. He has friends even though he’s out of state and not Mormon. |
| We toured it last year and I liked the U. My son ultimately choose a different school partly due to costs. It was a bit pricey and the flights back and forth aren’t cheap. He didn’t want to have to stay through that first summer to get in-state residency. It was very pretty there. Definitely for outdoorsy kids, which my son is, but he felt like he’d need a car to do those things. Also when we toured in Feb it was freezing cold. |
| fun fact about uofu: it has one of the best and most competitive ballet programs in the country |
Slc is the city Denver thinks it is |
Slc airport is very nice tho by American standards |
💯 |
| DC applied and was accepted quickly OOS (with the WUE tuition exchange). They sent a ton of nice swag! He ended up not going, but one good thing is the light rail goes directly from Salt Lake Airport to the campus. |
