Met Stephen J Gould when I was in college. He was a jerk.
Also met Carl Sagan when I was in college. He was very sweet and humble and even recognized me a summer later when he was giving an astronomy talk in Hawaii and I went up to have him sign my collection of books. |

| I hope people don’t take this thread title to heart and actively avoid meeting celebs or having their kids meet them. I’ve never had long interactions, but in brief personal encounters with star athletes, presidents, senators, movie stars, musical stars, CEOs, you name it, I’ve never seen a hint of ugly behavior. Maybe the real meaning is don’t go behind the curtain with your heroes or don’t pester your heroes. |

I think it’s a bit unfair to judge anyone based on a single interaction.
That said, colleagues of mine would agree with the negative assessments of Bill Murray and Tom Clancy, so that’s at least two each…. |

| I mean everyone has bad and good days so you just can't do a first impression all the time. It's situational. But I will say the phrase is conceptually true in that with everyone you need to manage expectations. We tend to idolize certain people esp if we are fans. The phrase reminds us that humans aren't perfect. |

Disagree, I am in Chicago and know four people who were full time at Harpo back in the day, one in finance and three on the show (two producers and a camera operator). She had super high standards but created an amazing place to work. They all loved it and would still be there if she had not ended it. |
