That's one I was wondering about. Any specifics about the programs?

Very strong in theater and dance. A good choice I think.
Juniata did not seem artsy to me at all. (Environmental science seemed a popular major). My Ursinus info is a little dated but I don’t think of it as artsy either.

Or a place where a generally artsy (maybe a major, but maybe not) kid can try lots of different classes/programs, and be around other generally artsy kids? Does a campus museum/gallery matter? Do they want classes to be generally open/accessible, or a little more tracked?

If they want deep roster/specialty, VCU. If the latter, most LACs should hit the trick, and there are advantages/disadvantages to each. Kalamazoo will offer lots of opportunity for getting involved with community art, as well as a lot of independent study. Hendrix has a live-work arts quad, where a kid could be fully immersed in the creative life -- includes a museum. They also have the Odyssey program, were a kid could go in-depth on a solo project. Beloit has a visiting artists program, and I think a museum, too? Wooster has nice facilities and an art museum/gallery space. All of those will offer a lot of hands-on experiences. None of those will have the roster of a VCU or Bennington.

Still me, I just read the whole thread. You will not want those midwestern LACs if your kid doesn't want cold/remote. Hendrix might still qualify, though it's small. UNC-A, yes. Loyola-NO?

Kalamazoo and Beloit are cold, not remote. Wooster is cold and remote.

My kid applied there. Interested in music and theatre. Theatre seems very strong, especially music theatre. A lot of kids applying for BFAs also apply to Muhlenberg as a BA alternative. They take showcases to NYC. My dd also seemed impressed with the music department chair. I don't know alot about visual arts there, but they seem to invest in arts overall. DD got into a few reaches and chose one of them, but she was really impressed with Muhlenberg.

VCU is so underrated.

Loved Muhlenberg. My 1380 SAT music kid got scholarships but didn’t want to attend because they wanted a bigger school. I was disappointed. Nice place. Good people.

For the Hendrix poster with all the information earlier, thank you!! Hendrix looks interesting, but I think I fall into the "but it's in Arkansas!" camp.

Lawrence University in Wisconsin. They have a great music conservatory. If you search this board for Lawrence you’ll find many positive posts about this school. Seems like a hidden gem.

Many of these SLACs are need aware. If you’re full pay or low need, it’ll be easier to get in to many. Some of the denials will be of kids who just have too much need.

That seems like a contradiction.

This was my first thought. Like Oberlin, Lawrence has a music conservatory and some great humanities and STEM programs, but with a higher acceptance rate at Lawrence. Definitely a gem.
