The USA Swimming website keeps a list of all kids’ IMX scores for the season who have swam the necessary events (which varies by age group, they are listed on the site). I honestly didn’t know anything about it until this thread because our club doesn’t talk about it (we’re in VA), but I wish they did because I just found out my 11 year old’s score is almost 3900. This seems like a pretty cool meet.

Ummm upthread a PP posted the PVS scores for the 11-12 year olds and no 11 year old boy or girl has 3900 points. There are some 11 year old girls approaching that number but they are all with clubs that would absolutely know about this meet (NCAP, RMSC, Machine, ASA). There are also some 11 year old boys from the same clubs approaching that number. 3900 is a ridiculous IMX score, I find it hard to believe a kid with anywhere near that number wouldn’t know about this meet.

Like I said, we are in VA. We are part of Virginia Swimming, not PVS. I have an 11 year old boy and his score is in the 3800s. Our club does not participate in this meet and the coaches have never really talked about IMX scores, which is why I was interested and surprised. Yes, I knew that my kid was on the “elite” track for his age group, but we are at a very strong club and there are others on a similar track. It was just interesting to see it on a more national level.

This information is all publicly available so you might want to ask that this post be deleted.

Swimstandards.com calculates and ranks IMX scores. It is also important to note that scores are different for each actual age 10,11,12 etc (but 9U are still grouped all together). No separate 8U category as 200IM isn’t typically offered for 8s. So you can get a score as a 9 year old and you can compare against other 9s as opposed to being lumped into the 9-10 group.

3800+ for an 11 y/o boy is top 20 in the entire USA.

I also heard that UMD refused to host again because some kids vandalized one of the locker rooms, but I’m not sure if this is true.

Yeah, that's the rumor - it maybe true. They still host some events, maybe not for younger kids?

It was the 13-14 year old boys that vandalized the locker room last year. UMD still hosts a whole bunch of swim meets involving all age groups.

Yes, definitely true. I was at the meet and it was awful. They ended up closing the boys locker rooms altogether because the vandalism continued after the warnings about it. Embarrassing and awful. I couldn’t recall if it happened at IMX or 14&U champs. Regardless, UMD is hosting champs again. I presume they need the revenue to maintain that facility.

It was actually Jr/Sr Champs where that happened with soap dispensers being emptied on the locker room floor to make a slip and slide. 🤦🏻‍♀️

There was definitely an issue at IMX involving the 13-14 year old boys and the boys locker room was closed. My kid was 10, so in a different session, but we all heard about it. I wasn’t aware of anything at Jr/Sr champs since we obviously weren’t there.

There was definitely an issue at Jr/sr champs in boys’ locker room, locker rooms closed then as well.

I had heard a club was being banned from the facility, but I don’t see how they could do that and continue to host major events for all PVS clubs.

Maybe the club at issue has been banned from using the locker room? We never heard what club was the issue at IMX, and that meet is not just PVS. People always assume the issues are with the youngest kids but the 13-14 group seems to be the common denominator (there were issues with this age group at summer Zones as well).

This was 15+ at jr/sr champs 🤦‍♀️
Guess we’ll see how it shakes out this spring

UMD is a beautiful facility. It will be disappointing if they stop hosting meets because the swimmers can't be respectful of the space.

This is my kid's first year attending.

Any tips about the meet? Should we arrive extra early? Preorder merch?

Thanks!

I’ve never been to Hampton Aquaplex, so I don’t know what the parking situation, etc. is like, but I would recommend booking your hotel ASAP as some of the hotels near the Aquaplex are already booked for the weekend. I always recommend pre-purchasing merch when it’s offered because those lines can get long and this is a very large meet. The sessions run long because of the number of kids competing so be ready for that.

My 14 has a high school meet the same weekend. Which meet should they choose?

Personal choice but HS meets are not looked at by colleges. Club meet times are used.

High School district meet, 100%

That's why the meet is 14&under

UMD is hosting Turkey Claus and NCAP Invitational in the next two weeks. Don’t expect that venue to disappear from the PVS schedule anytime soon. IMX moving to another location looks more like a scheduling / alternate host issue than a hangover from the actions of a few knuckleheads last year.

My swimmer has over 3900 and has never attended the IMX meet.

If your swimmer is 13 or over, there is a sixth event for that age group, and so it's a LOT easier to get higher scores.

Do you still need 1800 as a teen?
