I also heard that UMD refused to host again because some kids vandalized one of the locker rooms, but I’m not sure if this is true.

Yeah, that's the rumor - it maybe true. They still host some events, maybe not for younger kids?

It was the 13-14 year old boys that vandalized the locker room last year. UMD still hosts a whole bunch of swim meets involving all age groups.

Yes, definitely true. I was at the meet and it was awful. They ended up closing the boys locker rooms altogether because the vandalism continued after the warnings about it. Embarrassing and awful. I couldn’t recall if it happened at IMX or 14&U champs. Regardless, UMD is hosting champs again. I presume they need the revenue to maintain that facility.

It was actually Jr/Sr Champs where that happened with soap dispensers being emptied on the locker room floor to make a slip and slide. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I know it’s further away, but any responsible swim parent that wants their kid to be recruited by college needs to take their kid to IMX

There was definitely an issue at IMX involving the 13-14 year old boys and the boys locker room was closed. My kid was 10, so in a different session, but we all heard about it. I wasn’t aware of anything at Jr/Sr champs since we obviously weren’t there.

What recruiting is going on at a meet for 14 and under swimmers?! Listen, our club considers IMX score when they start moving kids toward the more elite HS tracks (so when kids are in 7th/8th grade) where recruiting does happen, so my kid knows they need to be proficient in all strokes and elite in a couple, but the meet itself means absolutely nothing for recruiting.

How does one calculate their swimmer's score to know if they have 1800 points? How many events are included in that combined score?

The USA Swimming website keeps a list of all kids’ IMX scores for the season who have swam the necessary events (which varies by age group, they are listed on the site). I honestly didn’t know anything about it until this thread because our club doesn’t talk about it (we’re in VA), but I wish they did because I just found out my 11 year old’s score is almost 3900. This seems like a pretty cool meet.

5 events. Sum of USA Swimming power points across all 5 events (free, back, breast, fly, IM - distances vary depending on age group).

Ummm upthread a PP posted the PVS scores for the 11-12 year olds and no 11 year old boy or girl has 3900 points. There are some 11 year old girls approaching that number but they are all with clubs that would absolutely know about this meet (NCAP, RMSC, Machine, ASA). There are also some 11 year old boys from the same clubs approaching that number. 3900 is a ridiculous IMX score, I find it hard to believe a kid with anywhere near that number wouldn’t know about this meet.

There was definitely an issue at Jr/sr champs in boys’ locker room, locker rooms closed then as well.

I had heard a club was being banned from the facility, but I don’t see how they could do that and continue to host major events for all PVS clubs.

Like I said, we are in VA. We are part of Virginia Swimming, not PVS. I have an 11 year old boy and his score is in the 3800s. Our club does not participate in this meet and the coaches have never really talked about IMX scores, which is why I was interested and surprised. Yes, I knew that my kid was on the “elite” track for his age group, but we are at a very strong club and there are others on a similar track. It was just interesting to see it on a more national level.

Maybe the club at issue has been banned from using the locker room? We never heard what club was the issue at IMX, and that meet is not just PVS. People always assume the issues are with the youngest kids but the 13-14 group seems to be the common denominator (there were issues with this age group at summer Zones as well).

Yeah that post totally read like I just found out my elite swimmer is good at swimming even though they won several events at PVS JOs last year.
