Yes but it’s considered racist now. |
| And when they enforce fare evasion, guess what? Police find people with outstanding warrants and generally reduce other crimes on the Metro. You don’t think some young thug will stop to use his fare card before committing robbery. assault or rape in the Metro system? |
100% agree. But also agree with PP that we shouldn't be asking station managers to enforce. It should be Metro police. The decriminalization has been a disaster. |
| And this is why my daughter won't be using metro to commute to school. Thanks lax DMV. |
The card also often makes people more easily identifiable and trackable. So, lots of reasons not to use it. |
| As someone who lived through DC in the 1980s and 1990s, when there were 500 murders a year and the mayor was smoking crack on video, it’s a sad state of affairs that even back then people didn’t think it was cool to jump turnstiles. I doubt there were many daylight rapes on the Metro either. Stuff like this is just emblematic of societal decay and it is depressing and embarrassing for the city. |

Why is it racist for young males to buy a fare card? Can't they get a job or two? The young males are able bodied. Young males have worked jobs for 1000's of years to help support their families.
I'd say it is more unfair for the grandmas and grandpas of the city to pay to support to operate the metro. |
| Metro definitely should hire more transit police. |
