You should really specify private school when you ask.
Hugely different then the competition for making a team at a public school.

OP here-I was specifically asking about FCPS so not private.

The OP asked about FCPS. Clearly private doesn't apply so this reply is irrelevant

Don't derail a thread.

Will each kid who tried out for HS basketball hear one way or another? How soon does that notice happen?

Yes, the coaches will tell them either way.

How soon are we expected to get results?

Didn't tryouts just start yesterday? How fast do you need to know?

Last year, on the third/last tryout session, the coach pulled some kids out and cut them. Then they cut some more to get to the final rosters, which came out two days later.

the coaches know 90% of the team rosters going into the tryouts, so it doesn't really take as long as you would think. If they have to attend 2 out of 3 sessions, they know pretty much the teams after day 2.

How many kids showed up for tryouts? My 9th grader had 46 for just freshman team, but a few didn't come back after day 1.

46!

About 60.

60 just for 9th grade?

That seems reasonable. How many freshman are there at an FCPS high school? I’m estimating 200-300 boys and same for girls. Basketball is very popular in our area so I could see 60 out of 200 or 300 trying out. Almost every kid we knew played basketball in elementary school. It dropped off significantly in middle school but a lot were still playing in 9th grade.
