At what point do you stop walking on eggshells? Is this ASD?

As all the answers suggest, it could be all sorts of things. Get a professional diagnosis.

Agree - but fwiw there are some who say that PDA is a subset of ADHD while most say that it is a subset of ASD.

PDA is a behavior not a diagnosis. I would argue that my anxiety gives me PDA.

Do you have labile mood changes from happy to sad/angry and back again in minutes? Do you have difficulty perceiving hierarchy or acknowledging it? Do you engage in leveling behavior? Do you/did you relate strongly to animals or toys in role playing? Etc.

Not OP, but my DC exhibits similar behaviors. What is "leveling behavior?"

Look into the social thinking program. Or zones or regulations they may be beneficial for your child.

What it sounds like. Leveling or equalizing behavior is, when the child feels like they are being treated unfairly (objectively or not) or from a lower hierarchical position, they will level or equalize the relationship, by breaking something that belongs to the other person, by throwing their plate on the floor, etc. Since they're children, it's not always directed against the "appropriate" person, it could be directed against a convenient sibling or other person. These can also be directed inward, such as self-harm, eating disorders, etc.

This is such a helpful thread. We're one of those families that has paid many tens of thousands out of pocket for therapists, parent training, consultants, and other help but have never heard of some of the things people are posting about.
