camping alone - am I overreacting about safety?

Anonymous
I have an irrational fear of being in remote cabins, so I would definitely just not go.

I've happily camped solo in remote primitive cabins. With 2 preschoolers... heck no.
Agree with PPs that employer should reimburse.

I'm creeped out at the idea. Moot, though, since he's been working 16 hour days and doesn't have childcare outside of my working hours.

My husband is big law, when we had to cancel vacation in the past when he was an associate , the firm reimbursed

Yeah, the military is not biglaw.

I'm not comfortable staying alone with two preschoolers in a pretty isolated cabin with no cell phone reception and want to stay home, but because we're well past the cancellation deadline, we'll be out over $1000, which is substantial for us. What would you do?

Where In new England? I'll give $500 for it.

New Hampshire. They won't let use transfer, DH just found out.

We'll live. Just not fun.

His employer sucks! Can his vacation be reinstated since the vacation $ is non refundable? Speak with HR.

His employer should cover the costs of the cancellation. If he hasn’t already asked, he should.

His employer isn't going to cancel the cost. We rolled the chance dice and lost.

That’s disappointing.

Live and learn. We usually buy insurance, but it was really pricey this time for some reason.

I wouldn't even go on that vacation with my husband along. What if he broke his leg, you couldn't lift him or drag him or call 911, way too unsafe for me. My minimum on a remote site would be communication with the outside world in case not everything went according to plan.

Really? So you never go anywhere without 911 access? I'm sorry, but that's limiting.

Agreed!

OP call the host today and ask if you can reschedule to another weekend. Explain the situation. They may be willing to work with you guys.

This is the premise of a slasher movie or 25

I am fairly adventurous but I don't think I would want to do that alone - I'm sorry.

I can't understand if I am following these post correctly, but I think if you're military and this was a military related cancellation - it's worth a shot.
