| DD is only 13, so we haven't done it yet. The girls haven't done anything to lead me to believe that they're interested in liquor, including going to the basement bar. DD has said that when she's older, she would probably like to have parties, and would host it in the basement. At that point, I would absolutely lock up the liquor. Hell, she said we should lock up the liquor, in case someone decided to sneak it. |
We're doing the same. We emphasize never drinking enough to lose control, certainly never drive, can call us any time and we'll come get you and your friends, and to keep an eye on your drinks so someone doesn't slip something in. |
| No. My kids are not partying |
This was how I felt too, until... My kid who I didn't think was interested in alcohol yet and a small group of friends took a full bottle and did a bunch of shots. Some of them ended up dangerously drunk. At 14. I encourage all of you to lock it early, then it's not a new thing after an incident like this. Your other option is to never let your kid be in the house alone. |
| I made some stupid alcohol choices as a female in college. A 16 year old boy? LOL. Heck yeah, I'm locking that cabinet. |
|
We started locking it when DD has friends sleepover, because they are all in the basement together and that's where we keep the liquor.
But we do this mostly because I wish my parents had locked up our family's liquor when I had friends over in 8th/9th grades. I don't drink and wasn't drinking then, but several kids/"friends" I grew up with (who obviously were pretty crap friends at the time) absolutely wanted to use a sleepover to push boundaries. The easy-to-access alcohol put me in a very uncomfortable position. Luckily nothing dangerous happened but I stopped hosting kids over after that. |
I don’t have liquor cabinets. So no I don’t. Is this a real thing? Who are you needing to lock it from? |
| we put bottle locks on wine and liquor because one of DDs friends was caught drinknig it straight from the bottle. She is 14. I tried to tell the (very very strict parents) and they did not believe me. this friends is not allowed over any more. |
In other words, I don’t drink liquor so there no liquor in the house except for maybe an occasional bottle of wine once or so a year. |
| Not yet but I should because my oldest is almost as old as I was the first time I stole liquor out of the cabinet. |
You’re really asking if liquor cabinets are a real thing because you don’t drink liquor? Moron. |
| We have beer in our fridge and 2-3 bottles of wine in a cabinet. Not locked but stealing wine or beer is more evident than open bottles of hard liquor. |
You're naive. |
Far from it. They got it elsewhere. Not from us. |
My parents had a liquor bar and I never drank from it. Not everyone is interested or attracted to booze. You’re naive. |
