Boys are fairing better across all schools in regards to college. Lots of articles on this...

Fairing? Like a May Fair?

A lot of what you hear on here about NCS is overblown, just like everything else on this board. That said, I think most at STA would agree that the grading is fair. And you don’t hear the type of chatter about intentional grade deflation with STA that you hear about NCS. Most complaints tend to be about the volume and rigor of the school work, the late nights of studying after a full day of sports, etc. but you get out of it what you put in.

Volume =/= rigor.

Correct, which is why I said volume AND rigor.

May Fare is a jointly held event sponsored by both STA and NCS.

Both schools are hard. If you have kids at both, seems like STA comes out ahead in terms of admin and day to day operations.[/

My daughter is at NCS and I have never heard of this happening. What class and grade? I have a hard time believing this.

in such a small school, i’m not going to out myself or my daughter. i’m not lying and we will be discussing with school. my daughter was not the only student who was told this and so i tend to believe multiple girls on this one. maybe there is a further explanation but on its face it’s crazy.

Contact the head of school for academics (who is also the middle school head). This is her domain and she is lovely and smart and one of the bright spots in the school. She needs to know this is going on in the class.

Aha. This is the reason. I was not aware that the head of the middle school is the head of school for academics. Oh my. Ok. We are moving out.

One of the bright spot? Who are we kidding? I guess you all are the people or your kids are the right color of people she likes.

NCS prides itself on low GPAs and high college acceptances. It’s a badge of honor. Plus it helps to maintain behavior among teachers that are dealing with bright girls.

Of course. Everyone knows schools are desperate for boys, especially those that are even halfway bright. Not sure what your point is.

So where do the boys in the middle of the class end up?

There seem to be 3 groups at STA: the academic superstars (perfect or close to it), the slackers/strugglers and the board swath of boyswho are in the middle. perhaps this is the case at every school but it seems especially pronounced at STA.
The middle boys have some overlap in colleges with the superstars (if the superstars don't get lucky with admissions)..places like UVA, Wake, UNC, Georgetown, BC, NYU, Davidson, USC, Chicago, Michigan and down to places like Syracuse or kenyon on the lower end..

Last years class of 76 or so sent 35 to the top schools, 33 to the Wakes, BCs, Davidsons, etc and 8 to the Oregons, PSUs, and the like.

Why are you always posting negative things about your daughter’s school? You seem like the type of parent that is not going to be happy it any school. You don’t seem to miss any opportunity to post negative things about your daughter’s school.

because there are not that many positive things to say about ncs

My STA kids all got As in their NCS English classes. Not sure what the fuss is about.

If you look online at the long list of English courses offered at NCS, I think you could admit that perhaps your son did not take the class/es that are being referenced by those above?

Hard to believe these are real NCS or STA parents posting as they claim. Maybe they’re new or clueless. There are several teachers in the Upper School at STA who are notorious for refusing to give As. As in NO ONE in the class gets an A no matter what.

I’m an STA parent and am aware of analogues at NCS, so how can NCS parents be so clueless as to say they aren’t aware of them? This is not one or two parents saying this but many.

Most STA teachers are fair but there are aholes. The school will not intervene.
