Pitt Merit?

is the merit major dependent? We can see here engineering, arts and sciences but CS and biz are rarely mentioned.

Yes, it’s based on the school you apply to. Almost no one gets merit for CS. Engineering gets merit, especially women, as they try to have a somewhat balanced class.

Most people get no merit at all if you look at CDS.

Wow. Glad my kid didn’t bother applying here for CS.

The algorithm probably spit out that this student would not attend and get into other schools so no benefit to Pitt to give merit. Where did he end up?

PP. He was seriously considering Pitt. We toured, opened all emails, clicked links, etc. After further investigation, couldn't find ANY CS. Didn't expect a full ride. Just wanted to keep COA under $45k. Think the OOS cost for CS is high $50s. He's at UMD now and happy.
FWIW, for other potential CS majors, we received merit offers from UMD, Ohio St, UMN (shockingly high), CWRU, Lehigh and BU (data science, NOT CS).
Good luck all!

Those are awesome offers. UMD is a great school! All of them! Congrats!

Can anyone explain why Pitt charges so much, when other schools seem to be able to offer merit? Curious and don't know...

"So much" in relation to who? For OOS, they are right in line with peers. Significantly less than UVA and WM OOS. Cut back on merit because I would assume they don't need to offer.

Any engineering admits test optional that got merit already? If it is not test optional status and not engineering major that kept my kid from getting a document on this already I’m really perplexed what it is?

It's only October. Don't they mention award decisions run through Feb/March?

WM OOS is outrageous. Pass.

DS22 had the same offer 2 years ago and received another 10k offer in Jan. So you may get more if you wait a bit

Thank you for this! I am the earlier PP w/ DD getting 20k per yr. This is very helpful! To the person who asked about test scores, it was ACT 35.

I guess so. Just seems that a kid might hear about this in proportion to when the kid received their acceptance. Since my kid was accepted in August and others that were accepted in September have heard, that seems like a bad fact.

For those that received merit- how did you find out? Did you get a notification via email or did you just see the award in your portal? If in the portal, where did you look? Thanks in advance!

It’s in the document center (or not, in our case)
