| FCPS is less transparent than it used to be. It's not really open to debate, even if it happens to be the case that VDOE wants to control the disclosure of SOL data. That's one data set, and there's plenty of other data that FCPS chooses no longer to disclose even though it could. |
| Does anyone know where one could find previous years' scores? |
What other data did it use to release that it no longer does? |
<<crickets>>? Should be easy to answer since you're so certain that it's not even open to debate. |
Some examples: SAT data - school averages and scores disaggregated by racial cohort Student ethnic data - used to be posted by early October; no such data available yet for 2023-24 school year (and older data has been scrubbed from school profiles) School Board - used to post "Next Steps" from work sessions and staff responses (or lack thereof); no longer compiled and posted |
Student ethnic data is another one that VDOE wants control over. |
all this data and records are there and available to the public via FOIA. All we have to know is what to specifically ask for. And If enough people request the dataor records via FIOA, then They will simply publish the data or records instead of having to individually send It To hundreds or thousands of FOIA requestors. |
VDOE also publishes student ethnic data. Not aware that it limits the ability of school systems to provide it as well and FCPS did so through the end of the 2022-23 school year. Maybe they'll do so this year as well, but they are slow compared to past years. |
Why do they need to duplicate VDOE's efforts then? FCPS used to do this--VDOE now wants control over it, so they are on VDOE's timeline. |
The FCPS data had been provided earlier and in a more accessible format. Stop making excuses for the increasing lack of transparency. With their $3B budget they should be providing more data, not less. |
I'm not making excuses--I just don't think that's the best use of their time if the data is provided elsewhere and they have to wait on the VDOE's release. VDOE is being very tight with data--ask anyone works in policy. The major changes are VDOE not FCPS. |
The e3 math program has basically zero information on it despite being used in 20 elementary schools. |
I noticed that too, which is really disappointing since it appears they want to use it to phase-out AAP math throughout FCPS elementary schools. |
DP - I was told by my SB member that this is the main focus for Reid right now. I was bringing up another issue and basically I was told my issue would not be focused on because Reid is busy trying to close the gap. |
The value is in framing an inquiry and not jumping to conclusions. Given the social support and networks in Reston, the nature of the gap would be a worthy study. If the gaps cannot be closed in Reston, matters are pretty bleak. |
