Do you buy your middle schooler Aviator Nation clothes?

Anonymous
The clothes are not only expensive, they look like they came out of a thrift bin - pre-worn. Some girls at DD's school seem to have a whole wardrobe of it. No thanks.

If you can afford it but it. If you can’t don’t. Or if you feel that it’s too much to spend don’t. Or if you have a day or holiday coming up like Xmas do. There is no wrong answer here. Except maybe she doesn’t need to be in head to toe. But you can always infuse a bit of your own sensibility about what fashion is and how trends in fashion really are just a a form of brainwashing for making money!

No. But my child goes to a high FARMS middle school. She has never asked for a particular brand of anything. She doesn't seem to care at all.

And I am familiar with the brand, but I haven't seen anyone in her school wearing it.

Never heard if it. My daughters get a ton of compliments on thrifted clothes. A lot cheaper/more sustainable for that retro look. I have bought some lulu things for my older daughter and really dont get the hype. Their shorts are super thin and rip easily. The leggings are fine but $$$. Aerie is more comfy for my budget.

Also in flyover country (Chicago) and yes, tweens wear AN here. Mine is not one of them. I would congratulate myself on raising a kid who doesn't care about this kind of thing but like PP also contribute to her Lululemon "hottie hot" shorts what I would normally pay for shorts (not $40).

Since she asked, and I started paying attention, it does seem like a lot of kids are wearing AN gear. Am I a cheapskate if I don't want to spend big bucks on this stuff?

No, it means you are well-adjusted and not a weak-minded status-chaser/purchaser.

Do you live in Bethesda where people care about having rich parents more than anything else?

+1 Also, you are probably not one of the people contributing so highly to the fact that our area has had the highest credit card debt in the nation for years.

Our MS/HS is high FARMS too. Unfortunately its bimodal so if you are not poor you are rich. Its a bizarre dynamic.

My best friend’s middle school kids have been wearing it for 2 years in a suburb of Philly. Super thankful my middle schoolers haven’t heard/ask for it yet (Vienna).

My kid is at Longfellow and I haven’t seen this brand, maybe I didn’t pay attention because I had no clue of its existence?

My DD wears Gap, Zara, Target etc. she has good quality clothes but the price point for AN is beyond what I will ever pay for her or myself.

OP here - lol, yes - live in Bethesda!

OP, me too. Got my teen a zipper up hoodie last year for Christmas and he's never worn it. No interest. Too bad we don't know each other IRL.

Nope. This is the prime time to learn how to resist brand mania. It never ends. Every year for the rest of her life there will be some new brand that everyone "must" have.

No, I don't buy my kid expensive clothing. That's just silly.

My daughter has some AN. It is very comfortable. It’s doesn’t make a financial impact on us at all. And of course we talk about splurging/ saving/ marketing but she’s a preteen. I remember thinking guess jeans and limited clothing were must haves. I outgrew it, I am sure she will mature too.
