How do you sign up/get approved for this? I’m interested!

I’m the NetGalley person.

Anyone can join. The more clout you have in bookish spaces, the most likely you’ll be approved to read books.

Librarians get the most approvals. Then bloggers and influencers. If you don’t have an online presence in a blog, bookstagram, booktwitter, or booktok, and review spaces like goodreads, Storygraph, and Amazon, you might have to start with reading the “Read Now” or “Listen Now” books…basically books that mostly smaller imprints are really eager to get eyes on. After 50 and 100 reviews, the approvals come a little more easily. They give you access with the understanding that you’ll be posting reviews.

There are certain publishers I can always get approved by and some that are notoriously stingy. For example, even huge book influencers have trouble getting approved for ARCs by Berkley.

I’ve found some favorite authors via ARCs that I wouldn’t have never encountered otherwise. I’ve always become much more aware of imprints. For example, Wednesday Books (imprint of Macmillan) really agrees with me. They got me into fantasy when I was pretty much exclusively reading historical fiction.

"How can i help you?"
Excellent so far. domestic suspense.

I started with Season of the Witch, and then felt like I was on a theme and read The Change. Really enjoyed both!

Tom Lake by Ann Patchett. I’m listening to the audiobook. It is narrated by MERYL STREEP and it is fantastic! Meryl brings the book alive.

None of this is true by Lisa Jewell

Just finished The Wolf Hunt by Ayelet Gundar-Goshen. It was a fantastic domestic thriller that touched on everything: race, gender, America, family. I really recommend it.

Unless it’s embargoed, I would definitely like to hear about ARCs. It helps to get on the Libby waitlists early, lol.

Yes, definitely!

I'm reading Solito. I'm an ESOL teacher and a colleague read it and recommended it. So far I like it but I don't think anything can hold a candle to Enrique's Journey.

It is one of best books I read this year. It’s a hard-to-put-down kind of book. Set in 1960s, it vividly portrays the 1960s, capturing the mood, attitudes, and challenges experienced by women from that era. I’ve heard about the inherent sexism and inequality of that time but I did not really KNOW this until reading the book. The protagonist, Elizabeth is a brilliant chemist and a way ahead of her time. She refuses to conform to societal norms. She wants a career. It’s a funny and entertaining book that celebrates the power of knowledge.

Series starts Oct 13 on Apple+, looks good and I didn't even like the book that much.

I'm in a reading slump, I'm still on my first book of the month. Us against you by Fredrik Backman, the second in the Bear Town Trilogy. I'm about 60% in but not loving it so far. |I was hoping to plow through it today to get it finished but didn't get to it, so hopefully I can finish it tomorrow.

Ooh, I've been lucky with some great picks as of late. I loved Bright Young Women and The Whispers for lighter reading. I tried the Revenge List, but I hated the main character so much I quit.

I'm currently reading The Other Eden, and it's fantastic. I'm also listening to Wellness.

Have Normal Women, Night Watch, and The Fraud up on my list next.
