Preparing for a trump reelection

Trump is going to win Ohio again, for the third time. I suppose most of your neighbors disagree with you. "Real" Americans or not. I suppose the real question for Ohio is whether Sherrod Brown holds on or is swept away in a third Trump statewide victory.

The histrionics aside, which is to be expected on DCUM, the Biden administration has real problems going into this election. Joe Biden's age is clearly a major issue with three fourths of Americans saying in multiple polls that he is too old.and yet, Trump is only 3 years younger and demonstrably worse mental and physical shape and the polls don't ask if the choice despite the age is Trump or Biden, where people will still vote for Biden never the less. This includes most Democrats. Then you have the Hunter Biden laptop and DOJ mess, conjured by Rudy Guiliani and Joe DiGenova along with the Oligarchs in Ukraine...there is still no proof of any malfeasance on behalf of the current president which means no matter how you spin it, Biden is not as clean and incorruptible he was supposed to be in contrast to Trump, and which in turn makes Trump's own legal problems less a moral issue for his supporters. Trump didn't use the DOJ to try to cover up his kids' dubious business activities, are you kidding? What do you think the "durham investigation" and Barr's white washing of the Mueller Report was?, Much less Trump pardoning all of his cronies something that is beyond dispute Biden's WH was trying to do.

Then we have inflation, which has been real and serious. and is worse everywhere else in the world

If the Democrats want to hold on to the WH, they have a better chance without Biden. Any Democrat who ignores these three major, major, major problems facing the Biden administration for a reelection is just a hardcore partisan in deep denial. because all those women who want access to proper healthcare are going to jump on the GOP bandwagon?

I don't know what will happen in 2024. But there is a reason why Trump is outperforming his 2020 polls and is in a virtual tie with Biden despite trailing substantially in all polls in 2020 and Biden's approval rates are among the worst of any president going into reelection. These are not anecdotes or personal "lived" experiences of neighbors who don't regret voting for Biden, but the hard reality of today's polls repeated over and over again.

Face it, there aren't a lot of new voters lining up behind the GOP, and there aren't that many under the age of 28 who wil be voting for the GOP, no matter how much the right wants to dismiss it, younger voters have grown up with gun drills, COVID and Dobbs - they are not going to be voting for the GOP.

For those of you who feel Biden's age is an issue (and I happen to agree with that assessment), don't you also feel the same about Trump???
I don't get it. Why one, but not the other?

Biden will win. Trump is the Man in the High Castle (a Nazi.)

It’s typical wingnut BS. Like all those stories about Hillary having Parkinson’s and whatnot that magically vanished after the election.

Look at Biden and Trump. As much as I despise the latter, my 6th grader heard Biden on the radio and shakes his head. The guy sounds like he's 100. Trump is nuts, evil, etc but he doesn't sound or look like he's about to croak! Seriously, it's really plausible Biden is losing it. Not suggesting he sucks but come on.

^both my MS kids hate Biden. These are obviously kids unfamiliar with his agenda but it's a relevant observation. If you look like an idiot you aren't doing something right campaigning. Obviously I know better esp v Trump but just saying.. legitimately, Biden has issues.

I really do not believe Trump Unchained is what the majority of Americans want. The problem is that they are loyal to their party, to a fault. So the real problem with America, as I see it, is that you only have two parties. You need several major parties, who can create ruling coalitions so the electorate can actually vote for their beliefs and not feel a slight twinge of regret about putting an incompetent authoritarian, or a sandbag-challenged senior, in power.

Because let's face it. If there were several left-wing parties, Biden wouldn't stand a chance either. He's way too old and bumbling. He's on the side of the angels, of course. But there comes a point when all the heavenly host can help you.

It is amazing what you have to tell yourself to keep your sanity. The stuff you dream up. Yes, he was going to nuke NK.

Researching options for my kids to live abroad. Not in a stomping my feet way, just thinking over options.

Trump is a symptom of bigger issues - ones that aren't easily fixed or perhaps are not fixable in the foreseeable future. I think the USA is in decline and it's going to get worse before it gets better. I believe the EU is going to start to leave us behind permanently if we re-elect Trump and they will become the dominant world power.

It's very clear that our governmental structure has held together over time on the principle of self-policing/honor system. I don't think it can withstand another off the rails administration - Trump or otherwise. There will be nice pockets of the USA aligned to the politics of the people who live there. Perhaps we can live with that level of fracture. We'll see. I just want my kids to have options.

The High inflation in the last few years have made people miserable and I can tell from my personal circles many people regret voting for Biden.

How are you all preparing for if trump is re-elected?

I don’t think it will happen.

He lost the Popular vote in the previous two elections he ran in and that was before January 6.

This all goes strangely uncommented on by the bOtH sIdEs pps and by the media. Like it’s organized. Like it’s a talking point.

+1 to this. Our form of government has been a grand experiment. It's not working and we need to re-tool.

This. My teen is approaching college. Going to school or attending a program elsewhere is a very real possibility.

She is my first priority as she is a female of childbearing age.

Then I have to figure out getting my much younger female child out, which involves at least me.

No idea if husband will be coming with, but I sure as hell am getting my girls out of this place before we go full Gilead

Like you said, you live in Maine.

You seem unfamiliar with Maine, where both Trump and Biden won electoral votes last time.
