Can we ban “kiddo?”

It's so much easier than saying "the two younger ones"

If you have to make *that* easier, I truly feel for your children.

I don't mind "kiddo" but I will join the cause if we can also ban "gifted", as in "I gifted my teen an ipad for Christmas." So silly and pretentious. It has an appropriate place in the financial world but most of the time people are using it incorrectly. IMO.

Ugh yes, I’ve absolutely loathed this term ever since I started seeing it maybe 5-6 years ago. It isn’t a past tense verb.

Kiddos
Littles
Tippy-top
Hubby

Ban them all.

I’ve never thought it was a bothersome term. I agree it sounds less offensive than littles, which I only have used when referring to my younger 2 kids as a unit to differentiate them from the other.

It’s fine to say “hey, kiddo” to one of your kids in real life, but to write it out in a post? NO

Exactly this.

+1
It's always one particular type of person who uses "gift" as a verb.

When I read a post on here or on social media or a parenting list serve using "kiddos" or especially "littles," I immediately imagine the writer tilting her head to the side and adopting this affected baby talk voice and then saw "awwwwwww!" in like a little squeal.

So if you use these terms, just know that's the image that it brings to mind. Maybe you like sounding like a vapid idiot, I don't know.

Get in line. First, we're banning "hubby".

Nope. Freedom of speech.

What about DD and DS? Those are annoying when you think about what they are short for. I prefer kiddo. Not sure better alternative in this sort of forum.

I’m an elementary school principal, and I hate “kiddos.” The other one that is nails on the chalkboard for me is “friend” when referring to a student that struggles with behavior, as in “Our friend in first grade is refusing to come in from the playground.” Just use the kid’s name!

Also “the hubs.”
