don't have a high schooler, I have a 6th grader if they want to keep high schooler a holiday that is fine, we don't even have that many Jews at our schools.

So? A 6th grader can use the day off and catch up on school work at home. I bet your child would love to do just that. The moment to complain about Observance Days was when FCPS sent a survey home.

I’m not Jewish, but I have great respect for those who are, and I’m appalled by the passive aggressive tone of your comment.

A 6th grader shouldn't need a day off to catch up.

We don't celebrate, but some people do. I don't mind having the day off and sleeping in!

Yes, equity. How horrible it is to show respect to a diverse community & let them celebrate their holidays. /sarcasm

Rastafarians? No insult to them (just an example), but if everyone was to get a holiday, there would be no school. What should be the size of the student population or petition necessary to get a holiday?

I don't have the answer.

You are not actually comparing Jews to Rastafarians

Ya Mon he is.

Most private employers don’t give it off so no one is sleeping in.

I’m a DP, but no, we do not need those days off.

+1 I grew up in a predominantly Catholic area and never had those off.

For all of those complaining about Yom Kippur( let’s remind ourselves that we get Christmas off And spring break usually covers Good Friday.

Are YOU saying Jews are more important than Rastafarians?

Uh huh. The US was founded on Christian values after all, that's why we murdered all those Native Americans for religious freedom.

NP and I’m fine with that. I was raised going to church for the Stations of the Cross every Good Friday. I’m not doing that with my children and have no problem if they attend school. Anyone who wants to keep them home to observe any holiday can do so.

^and we never had Easter Monday off.

I'm glad we have it off. Jewish teachers and students should be able to observe this holiday without having to take off work or miss class.

I will take off work and enjoy a day off with my elementary kids.

How would anyone feel if FCPS didn’t give Christmas off?

Sigh. It’s a federal holiday and they would not be able to staff schools, transport kids, etc. When FCPS gets the government to reverse the designation of 12/25 as a federal holiday, feel free to ask that question again.
