| One of the most successful, published profs at my university had big gruesome prison tattoos on both forearms. Didn't stop him from getting tenure. |
| I just find them ugly and disgusting. A tattoo ruins the beauty of the human body in my view. It is like graffitti. |
| Graffiti is art work, moron. |
That was because all the old pasty fat guys on the committee were afraid you would kill them with your bare hands if they didn't king you.
I don't have a tat, but I know plenty of people who do who are also large firm lawyers. It's not my thing. Probably wouldn't let my kid do it either, but we'll see. |

Bankers and lawyers have tattoos and make six and seven figures, and I'm sure some even more.
Tattoos have been around at least 5,000 years. I think that establishes it as a legitimate art form and a legitimate means to express who we are as individuals. I can understand criticism of current tattoo trends, but I see no way to justify an attack on tattoos of any kind whatsoever. We paint our faces, pierce ears, dye hair. We try to get stronger, skinnier, whatever. We decorate ourselves, and this is a more permanent form but no more permanent than a nose job. I think if tattoos today fall short, it is because people reaching for a statement of their individualism so often seem to be unable to do more than pick a design off a wall, not too different from the ones their friends have, and therefore their big statement is one of conformity. |

Yea, but *I* don't like it. Why should any of *THAT* matter? I didn't KNOW any of that. I have a misperception about them I will assume to be true and form a worldview from there. I will then use this worldview to make myself feel superior to others. And should I one day choose to get a tattoo, I will change my perspective and instead choose some other characteristic I don't possess to distance myself from others and return to my perch on top of Bitch Mountain.

Indeed. The tatooed people do like their graffitti. And calling people names. And assuming others don't understand how their complicated pyramid, slush fund, I mean not-for-profit scams, I mean, organizations. How many of you tatted women are under 40? How many live in the far burbs? How many of you grew up eating mayo and skittles on white bread in a trailer? Oh and guys with prison tats should always be held up as the shining example of why a giant gnarly tattoo is finally an acceptable thing in the conservative workplace. You know who else liked to put tattoos on people before he put them in ovens? Not for nothing, it is the preferred form of self expression of white supremacists. Although I now see confused darker skinned AA carving themselves up with them. Esp. in the NBA. Can barely see the markings really... It looks particularly silly in that case. AA's have enough prejudice to overcome without scribbling permanent graffiti on themselves. And yes. Graffiti is "artwork". It does have it's place. I don't like to see it on the mailbox in my neighborhood--but that's another issue, really. I hate the trend toward doing this because it is permanent branding for fashion or kicks--not a discreet homage to a truly meaningful experience; no disrespect Mr or Ms USMC. Go to the beach looking like carny folk if you like, no one's stopping you. |
| I was 22 when I didn't get that tattoo in Amsterdam like the other girls I was traveling with. They got roses on their hips. No regrets over not getting a tattoo. |
| PP here, edit. I meant, how a bogus shady not-for profit org is run. If everyone in the org is easily making 200K , wow, you MAY be working for a tax shelter that will eventually be shut down. I do understand exactly how they work, actually. This is completely beside the point, whatever. |
The carnies are more fun! Are you a woman? I asked this earlier but got no response...don't know if you are the same poster or not...but how do you feel about plastic surgery? I am a tattooed Jew and find it absolutely hilarious when woman with fake breasts and taught faces look down upon me for a tattoo. The like to inject botulism into their faces to make it temporarily smooth. Some like to have the skin cut on their faces and pulled up higher so they can look like alien clones of one another as well. I mean really. I think plastic surgery is ridiculous...but if someone wants to get it, and it makes them happy or they like it, more power to them! It's their body and not mine. Actually, the tattooed people look normal these days compared to some plastic surgery victims. Have you seen the Catwoman? In my opinion, that is MUCH more shocking! |

I consider people with tats to be show-offs - especially when it's in a very visible place like neck and arm.
USMC, their baby's name, some date, a picture of the sun, etc. - really? Can't you just keep that stuff to yourself? Where is the sense of modesty? |
DO you wear your dog tags too? |
Lol. You're funny. I do know those things. But, I'll still never get a VISIBLE tattoo. That's what I've been saying all along here. If you can cover it with your underwear, fine. This is just reality, folks. Yes, tattoos and piercing have been around for thousands of years. PP. It is pretentious and even offensive to co-op primitive or ancient cultures' practice of visible body art in our Western culture if that is what your rationale is for doing this. It is particularly laughable when people tattoo foreign alphabets and words and the writing or design doesn't mean what they think it does. For young people (I mean teens and early 20's) it's become as casual as Calvin Klein Jeans for another generation. I find that really disturbing. It's buying into branding in a much more stupidly permanent and visible way. It's going to get very crowded up here on Bitch Mountain when your your sweet daughters get near the age when they might get talked into a back tattoo by some inane boyfriend. |
Lol. |
Nope, am TOTALLY moving to your neighborhood and seducing your children with Tang posicles. See you at the PTO meeting. |
