Go ahead and mock but employability in the States is a very serious issue talked about re St. Andrews parents (I have a kid at Oxford)

Not Oxford but the employability of St Andrews students back in the US has been the subject of many threads here and on Reddit and College Confidential

I don’t think parents are worried about their St. Andrews’ kid’s career prospects. Most are UMC/UC and have connections to help their kids. Popular choice at some schools like Choate, Rye, etc.

My kid is in the JDP and this is her goal. Different strokes. She got into a lot of incredible schools in the US, as did several of her friends who went straight to StA over the last few years.

Univ of Edinborough is generally regarded as superior to St Andrews. St Andrews has more name recognition because royals attend it.

Yup. I am from the UK, sending my kids there for university, and I don't mind whether they end up in the UK or the US. Yes, standard of living is significantly higher here in general. But lifestyle is better there. Minibreaks around Europe, vacation time, social lives etc. And life expectancy in the UK is three years longer than the US, the result of much lower accident deaths, suicide, overdose, murders etc. So not clear that the US is necessarily superior to UK overall.

I ended up in the US but would have been just as happy to stay in the UK.

Fellow Brit living Stateside. Don't forget free healthcare. I'm about to have an op here which costs $80k. Our co pay is a tiny fraction of that, but only because we've got solid health insurance.
