+1. The drunks snoozing in the afternoon sun never cause any problems. |
| I personally don't drink at games but I don't mind if others do. As long as they don't get stupid drunk or cause issues, who cares? |
How about drunk driving? Buzzed driving? You want your kid to catch a ride home with someone who has been drinking? How about we not normalize day drinking at kids’ sporting events? These are the parents who will soon host parties in their home, provide white claws or seltzers for all the teenagers and then congratulate themselves for being so “safe” and open and permissive because if their kids are gonna drink they are gonna drink at home and no one is driving. It’s all social engineering and manipulation and an attempt to be the cool parents with equally cool kids. |
The fact that you only had one noticeably drunk person in all your years of games seems to suggest that maybe they don’t need to enforce it? Most people aren’t doing kegstands; that woman was an anomaly. |
Why aren’t you driving your own child? |
This PP and ok but beware of carpooling then. Still worried about the parents drinking and driving. |
Drive my kid everywhere. But I don't want you and your drunk friends on the same road. |
|
To me, there’s a difference between going to lunch between games and having a beer, v. planning a bar setup at the field.
Bottom line is that no one should be drinking substantially, then driving. But the latter seems much more immature. |
Sure, but that wasn't what PP said. |
| My oldest is U17. He has played at probably 4 different cubs over the years. I have NEVER seen ANYONE drink at a soccer event. We've been to tournaments and/or showcases all over the country (from Florida, to San Diego, to St. Louis, to S. Carolina, to NJ) and just about every local tournament numerous times. I've never seen anyone drink. However, my youngest started playing tackle football last year and the parents are drinking at practices! |
| It’s very common at my kids, games and tournaments. I thought people were just drinking coffees and waters until one day somebody offered me a cocktail. I was oblivious to the alcohol culture at games. |
| I have never seen this at any game or tournament all the years My child has been playing. We need to stop normalizing alcohol culture. What kind of example are you setting that you can’t even attend a game without partaking in alcohol? I’m not a teetotaler at all, I certainly enjoy myself, but I’m not going to drink at my child’s athletic event, and then put others at risk on the road. |
So you’re just arguing for the sake of arguing. 🙄 |
I got news for YOU - I got caught at a park and got a ticket. Me and my 6 friends. Open container, drinking in a national park. I paid a fine. NBD. |
Got caught in VA at a national park - it's just a fine. |
