Out of control Child threatening parents

Anonymous
OP, as I’m sure you’re aware, anger is not a diagnosis.

I don’t think you need to document that your child is violent and lies—rather, your child needs a formal diagnosis and a treatment plan.

I suggest a neuropsychological evaluation, a psychiatrist (is the therapist one?), and likely medication.

In our case a small dose of Abilify has been enormously helpful in controlling ASD-related irritability, rage and violence in our daughter.

Good luck. It’s hard.

We had a therapist tell us to lock ourselves in a room in and communicate that we would not allow him to hit us. It was ugly, but once regulated, we’d praise the sh*T out of him.

Not a solution for a cruise, but I say you call it a loss and fly back.

And I disagree that it is more than ADHD—it could be. Our child was so angry and woils go the behaviors you mentioned.

It was such a hard and lonely time. I’m very sorry, OP.

**I Have no idea what woils is?! Our kid had similar behaviors and it was adhd and meds = 100% different child

I’ll come to your defense: OP went on a cruise because it’s extremely stressful raising these kids and sometimes all you want is to get away. You picture of the scenario where things go well/you don’t think of the worst case scenario. Maybe OP went away recently and it went relatively well. Maybe DC was doing well when plans were made. So you go. And then you find yourself in a hellish situation and are jealous of everyone with Neurotypical children who can just go on vacation and not twice about it. OP, I’m sorry that people on this group—especially this group of all groups on DCUM— is being judgmental

Yes, it is stressful. No, you do not need to go on a cruise with a kid who clearly cannot handle it. You aren’t entitled to the exact vacation you want. If OP didn’t know that before, she does now.
