Because there will always be some liberal trying to shoe horn in a shelter in a nice neighborhood.

No problem with having a well-run shelter in a "nice" neighborhood. But I have a problem with being told to just accept anti-social behavior on the surrounding streets and with DC just shrugging and doing nothing to fix the problem that they created.

Racist.

LMAO, the laziest of arguments has made an appearance.

Right, we just had a race between Goulet, who said that there were issues with the housing vouchers that the city needed to address, and Frumin, who said that the city needed to step on the gas and have the city should spend more to bring more people into the Ward ("Ward 3 for all"). People voted for Frumin.

The post had an article just a few days ago about how the city's programs are turning neighborhoods that used to be good into drug dens:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/08/08/dc-paid-housing-chronic-homelessness/

But if that's what people vote for, that's what people vote for.

You all have former Councilmember Elissa Silverman to thank for Frumin. When she started a smear campaign against Goulet and polling people, all of a sudden, Goulet was no longer the front runner and Frumin, who was a nobody, won the primary.

Silverman’s favorite thing to do was smear DC residents even if they weren’t running for office.

He sold his soul to the bike bros and progressives to get elected and now they are going to primary him for being incompetent. Meanwhile he twiddled his thumbs while old ladies were left to fend for themselves all along Connecticut Ave. What a joke.

You’re talking about Frumin. He’s nursing a years old wound because his co-worker didn’t like him.

When the talks of bringing the shelter were happening there was discussion about a “good neighbor” policy. Who to contact to get this reinforced?

The issues around Giant have more to do with voucher holders. The women who panhandle -- aggressively -- in front of Giant are voucher holders who live in apartments nearby on Massachusetts Ave. They get free rent and panhandling is their job. Please do not give money to these people.

You can blame Frumin for a lot of things, including not pressing the city to run the shelter better. But the shelter is there because of Bowser who promoted “burden sharing” with the idea of closing DC general and replacing it with smaller shelters in all Wards. Cheh also supported this initiative and tried to make it as unobtrusive for Ward 3 as possible by ensuring that it was a family shelter and locating it next to the police station.

Silverman ended up pushing through the Ward 3 gerrymandering plan (to break up neighborhood ANCs) that was designed by a Trump operative. And then she even announced a big party to celebrate “redistricting.” At least she lost her seat but Ward 3 still has to live with her handiwork.

This makes sense. A lot of voucher holders are drug addicts and the city provides no additional services. At the shelter does give an opportunity for services.

Bowser promised to spread the “burden” equitably to Ward 3 and Frumin promised a Ward 3 “welcoming to all.” They’re both responsible for spreading crime and social disorder to all, including Ward 3.

This is all under the nose of the police. The police station is next door to the shelter and across the street from Giant. Can’t the police restore law and order even on their own doorstep?

that article was heart breaking.

drug dealers taking control of the apartments.

this is bigger than just "its under the nose of the police."

no easy solutions, aside from a total change of society.

my heart goes out to the residents in the building just trying to live sober lives.

How about a change of leadership in the Wilson District Building?

The DC Council is actually raising taxes this year to pay for … yes, even more vouchers.

They've got to stop with the vouchers until they figure out a way to make it work.
