| We spent 45 minutes eating breakfast and talking about the day. So from say 7-7:45 we're occupied in the hotel enjoying the morning and each other and then we head out for the day at about 8. So yes to your apparent question, you really eat in the hotel? And no to your literal question "waste" of "a good chunk" of our day from my point of view. Maybe from yours, but that's why they make chocolate and vanilla! |

Only if you grab a few extra banana, apples, oranges, yogurts, bagels etc for later snacks.

| Not in Paris |
| It depends on what the breakfast includes. I've made sandwiches and gotten fruit and snacks to make lunches and it's a good deal. |

It depends who you travel with. DH and my dad like breakfast. They wake up early and go eat while I get ready.
I REALLY appreciate coffee. I don't mind buying coffee on the street, but that means I've missed out on my coffee for at least 60 min while I woke up, got ready, got in line and purchased. Coffee is a big joy in life and I really want it the moment my eyes open. Plus, a lot of times on vacation we have a tour or a train we're trying to make at the crack of dawn and I don't have time to buy coffee. Cafes in Paris want you to sit and drink tiny coffees too. |
+1 - another poster who likes to sit with DH over breakfast and plan out our day. We also like to hit the ground running - once we are ready to go, we go! Taking that time over breakfast to make sure we have whatever tickets we need, a rough outline for the day, dinner reservations, etc. makes the rest of the day much more enjoyable FOR US. I know there are other types of travelers who love to just head out and find joy wherever they wind up. Again, everyone is different on vacation. |
Coffee appreciator here also, but one that has become basically one of those annoying coffee snobs. Because of this I pretty much never get coffee at a hotel because it is invariably disappointing. So I always end up searching out the good spots where I am traveling and make sure to stop by to grab something as we begin the day. |
| Up by 7 am on vacation?!! Jesus Christ! |
It is up to the breakfast food. A few years ago we went to Salzburg, Austria and the breakfast selection at a small hotel in downtown blew our mind away. I counted 7 different kind of bread plus croissant. 6 different kind of cold cuts plus hard salamis. 10 different cheese. Butter, Nutella, 5 jams, fruit, veggies, eggs, cereal, muesli, milk, fat free milk, almond milk, coffee, huge selection of teas, juices, pastries. How do I still remember??? I took many pictures and sent it to friends... I was in breakfast "heaven". One night I hardly ate any dinner because I couldn't wait to have breakfast again.... And the room rate was only 11 Euro more than the next hotel without breakfast...
