Boston College chances

what private school has kids with an unweighted 4.0 and so many APs.

This must be a Catholic high school?

At my kid's Big3 the kids attending BC in 2023 were A-/B+ average students.

BC never even required an essay outside of the common app. They don’t care.

False. BC has always had an essay. They have their supplemental essay topics for 2023-2024 already ;listed on their website. Would it kill you to actually research something before falsely making claims?!

All this tells us is that you have no idea what you’re talking about and you haven’t from the start. Your contribution to this thread is worthless.

I know everything Gonzaga’s scattergram tells me. And these stats are better than 75% chances for ED.

We are GZ. They had a record number of acceptances to BC for 2022. A huge number. We were told they were told it won’t be the same in coming years. It was an unusual year. And- we were told 34 ACT was no longer great for the school. 35 seems to be the # now.

I’m a BC grad. I think it was about 5-8 years ago that BC took the bold step of requiring a BC-specific essay in addition to the Common App essay. They made the move to reduce the number of time-wasting applications from people who had no real intention of attending, and to increase yield. The impact of the new required essay was dramatic & immediate. Applications dropped sharply and the acceptance percentage almost doubled (as I recall). So, unless they have reversed course again, BC does require their own essay.

Yes, we were told 1520 SAT, which I think is a 35.

On our visit and your I got the distinct impression what high school your kid is applying from matters a lot. The AO basically said that they don’t hide behind the fact they take a number of kids from X, Y and Z schools (which were all private Catholic schools). I’d rely only on Scattergram results for the last 2 years and the major is likely going to matter as well. If your son is applying for nursing, probably has a decent shot.

I think OPs chances are very good especially ED. The stats are above the average. If the school is not known to BC, ie it isn’t catholic, you’ll have slim chance in EA RD rounds. The kids I know who’s re current undergrads are no geniuses by any means they were A- kids with a few APs.

Who told you this? BC or Gonzaga?
Number of boys in 2023 going to BC was way down compared to 2022. I haven’t looked at and compared the #applied//accepted/attending 2023 vs 2022.

My DD got accepted ED to BC and will be starting in the fall. We just got back from orientation. We are not Catholic and I really think it’s misleading that it’s a huge focus. They focus on Jesuit beliefs. They pointed out numerous times that it is a university, not a church and don’t care if you are religious or not. Sure, there were kids there from Catholic HS, but there were just as many who were not. Service is a huge thing for BC. You need to demonstrate service to your community and the supplemental essay that’s required is a great way to show that. Also, high SAT scores 1500+ seemed to be common among kids that were accepted ED. Best of luck!

Only 30% of freshman submitted sat scores, according to the CDS, and of those who did, the 25th/75th percentiles were 1430/1510. This means the vast majority of students would score lower than that. Otherwise they would have submitted scores.

What a terrible reading of the CDS.
For students taking the SAT/ACT in 2020, and applying to BC for fall 2021, 30% submitted SAT scores AND 20% submitted ACT scores.

hmm, I wonder why so few students were taking ACT/SAT in 2020?

The BC website says religious affiliation is “important” (ranked equivalent to ECs and service etc) so that sounds like a huge focus to me.

What it says on the website and the reality are two very different things in our experience.
