No fridge for a week- how to feed kid?

Anonymous
See if you can borrow a mini fridge from a neighbor - don't bother buying one. I'd do a bunch of pb&j, eggs can be left on the counter, most fruit (though be careful of fruit flies), bread pre-sliced and in the freezer to get toasted, oatmeal, and you know, takeout and chicken nuggets for a week to fill in won't kill your kid.

Do people have spare mini fridges lying around to lend? Coolers, yes, and probably ice packs will get you through the week.

Put a piece of dry ice down in a cooler, then a piece of cardboard and then a layer of ice. This should keep milk and fruit cold for several days without needing to change out the ice.

Yes, they might. Someone’s kid had one in college and it migrates back home. Have one in the RV they’re not using. It can’t hurt to ask on the local buy nothing group.

If it were me, I'd feed my kid takeout. It's only a week. I'd get a large cooler for kids milk and any other necessities.

You're planning to order takeout meals for two adults for a week, and are balking at the cost of a mini fridge? Huh.

You can take a wine fridge and use that. My brother has an extra wine fridge in his garage that they're not using.

I was going to suggest either buying a mini fridge or using shelf stable milk for the milk question.

Tons of food can be stored/prepped shelf stable without a fridge. Pasta, rice, veggies, fruits, oatmeal etc. Or just eat take out for a week, which won't be the end of the world.

A mini fridge is cheaper than a Yeti cooler. Just buy a mini fridge.

Cooler + go to the grocery store daily to buy things.

brainstorm some meal ideas that dont need refrigerated items: frozen meals (either you pre make or from the store), pb and j, canned beans and veggies (or frozen veggies), tortillas, rice, fruit like bananas and apples, oatmeal... then go to the store mid week and buy some things you can cook that day and then eat out the rest.

I don't think this is hard. There are so many meals that you can make that do not require refrigeration - lentils, rice, beans, pasta, veg soups, orzo, pasta salads, etc. If you still have a freezer, you can easily do meats. IF you want to eat out a couple of days, do that. I honestly don't see where the issue is.

Have you never been camping? You have to be smart enough to figure this out. What a moronic question.

How sweet of this poster! OP, maybe you can both create a throw away email to connect.

Buy a small fridge and then sell it if you don't want it later. Or ask someone to borrow one.
