I am sure it does. Just like any team on any club. |
Both of these statements can be true. Look, you can argue whatever you want but CM's personality and reputation are well known in the industry. Some of his personality likely is a reason for his and ML's success. Some parents will be completely fine with his abrasive style (like the ML youth mom I saw at our kids game this weekend where even her husband said out loud "you are starting to turn into that mom"). Other people will deal with it for a little bit or understand that it is a two way street (like my old college roommate's whose son played for ML and eventually earned a scholarship) others will be turned off. There is also a strong possibility that there is more revenue in the events side of youth lax and said events don't rely on his interaction with parents that might dissuade them from signing there kid up. | To your point, not every club owner and coach’s personality and reputation are all over this forum and all over the internet. |
Huzzah....for once, a decent person on a youth lax forum. |
All clubs have their warts. Just depends on your level of tolerating those warts. The owners reputation just happens to be a pretty prominent one of ML. If someone told me their was nothing wrong with their club, I knew they were either lying or delusional. |
Bumping this question. |
| 2025 is one of the strongest programs in the country, multiple kids getting looks from High Major D1 programs. Split between local players and Texas talent. |
Also it is only MadLax team over sixth grade not plagued by Daddy ball. 2024, 2027, 2028, and 2029 are a mess due to parent coaching. 2026 is a mess for other reasons. |
|
2030, 2031, 2032, and 2033 ML teams also have Dad coaches.
What's the problem with 2029 ML? They were considered the #1/#2 team in the country since the original US Club Lax rankings came out. |
The 29 teams ranking and results are more due to the fact they are really talented and get away with the Daddy ball. One of the assistant coaches sons is a phenomenal player and just a tremendous athlete. As is most of the team but this kid just stands out. he is I coached against this kid in other sports and I was just amazed at how good he was. His big question will be if the kids grows - he was just way faster than anyone else on the field but that eventually catches up to you. The HC coach is good but not as good as the dad thinks he is. From what I've been told, the offense runs through the HC's son instead of the assistant. |
daddy ball doesn't work once you get past grades 5-6. good players with wise parents will look for professionally coached teams. Madlax ownership loves daddy ball because they are cheap (or free) labor. but they always build the team around their sons, which has direct and indirect effects on everyone else. prior post is a good example. |
| Professional HC with a dad or two in the mix is the ideal. Having a dad or mom on the coaching staff ensures someone has the kids in mind and remembers they are children with hearts even if they are 18 years old. It’s truly a business for the owners and that’s how they operate - not blaming them - but that is something to keep in mind. |
| The most heartless coaches are often the daddy coaches, just not with their own sons. See MadLax 2024, 2027, 2028. |
| These tryouts coming up |
Well said. |
