Sriracha shortage is insane

You should mark it up and sell it. $$$

No shortage of Tabasco sauce. They grow their own chilis in fields right next to the factory.

Poor planning by Huy Fong, to not control more of their supply chain.

NYT had a good article explaining the Huy Fong sriracha shortage. The company had a payment dispute with their pepper supplier who supplied the millions of pounds of red jalapeños needed annually to make the sauce. The pepper company terminated the agreement and was awarded damages.
Now Huy Fong has to patch together shipments from smaller growers in Mexico where production is unreliable. It seems to be a self-created problem.

Still zero at our local hmart. Checked multiple times over the last two months.

This is the reason for the shortage. It wasn't the Ventura County, California pepper company that terminated the agreement it was Huy Fong trying to be greedy. Now they don't have a consistent supplier of peppers. From the Los Angeles Times https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-sriracha-lawsuit-underwood-ranches-20190712-story.html
"The family-owned Underwood farm was once the exclusive supplier of the chile peppers at the core of Huy Fong’s rooster-labeled sauces. The trial, which began in early June, came to a close last week when a civil jury determined that Irwindale-based Huy Fong breached its contract with the chile grower and committed fraud by intentionally misrepresenting and concealing information."

This is the link to the original farm that grew Huy Fong's peppers for the sriracha for 30 years. They are now making their own sriracha sauce- original and dragon style. You can order them online.

Been seeing it at hmart now. They're charging $9.99 and limiting to 1 bottle!

I'll be waiting for the shortage to ease more. I'm not paying double the price. It is flying off the shelves though. I've gone to hmart, looked at the bottles, come back to the same shelf 15 minutes later and see a number of bottles taken. People are fine paying exorbitant prices for it I guess.

Same - tons at my Giant in PWC.

Ok but Tabasco is NOT a good substitution for Sri racha. I don’t even know how Tabasco stays in business with so many better sauces in the market.

Is there still a shortage? I just came across a ton a Sriracha small and large bottles fully stocked in MoCo.

And this might be a good chance to branch out and try other things. We have a bottle in the fridge, but it doesn’t get used as much because compared to other hot sauces, sriracha actually has very little flavor other than some sweetness and some heat.

I agree with this. I actually prefer the Trader Joe's knockoff to Rooster. It has more flavor.

I'm just wondering what is going on in the company. A while ago, the community was complaining about their pungent chili aroma in the air. Now, the shortage continues. What is happening?!

I’m addicted to their chili garlic sauce over all other brands, and am about out. I’d love to find it.
