I’m on Mounjaro and it’s amazing! OP, my former fat kid self wishes you and your kid all the best. |
Mounjaro has an additional chemical, but it doesn’t seem clear from anything except marketing that people do definitively better on one or the other. |
I really hope you don’t do this to your son. You’re setting him up for a lifetime of misery. Put him in sports. Do you know you can’t stop these meds once you start or the weight returns. |
Or they could do both: pair the meds with sports. It’s not a magic bullet. You have to eat less and move more. The Wegovy can help get him going on the path to a healthier weight. |
She said he is in sports already. |
I recommend PC Weight in Fairfax. The physician is excellent, thorough, doesn't take insurance but fairly reasonable prices. You also receive an invoice to submit the claim if you have out-of-network coverage. The physician will explain all your options - medication and non-medication and she's cautious with meds, starting at a low dose, etc.

If your child on any meds that cause weight gain? One option is to tweak those medications or see if there are different meds they can use instead. For example, some psychiatrists start with Risperdal to stabilize the child and then transition them to something like Lamictal which doesn't have weight gain as a side effect. |
So adding the Wegovy for a while might jump start some weight loss to help him. Everyone that stops the medication doesn't regain. Especially those that incorporate increased activity. |
How brave. Can’t wait to hear your opinions on lithium, chemotherapy, narcan, speed limits and gun control. |
None of us knows what op’s kids physiology is like. Some people just hold more weight naturally than others. That probably got their tribes through famine in earlier ancestors. I doubt all of you are sticking to hunter gatherer diets. Judging this parent for getting weight control meds is like judging parents who get their kids glasses. |
Hi op, I’m watching this thread with empathy and hope you get some good advice. Pediatric endocrinologist is the way to go. We see one for my son (different issue) but she said her biggest caseload is now children with metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. I also have a child who is overweight, likely due to prenatal issues (she evidently wasn’t getting enough nutrition in womb, born under 5kbs full term fortunately her development has been fine, all around gifted but a very thrifty metabolism with strong hunger). We are watching it, her cholesterol and blood sugar.’with doctor for now but I know this is an option later and am grateful for it. |
Given your crazy ass response you sound just like your brother. |
